    hi,

My HP DV6 6053 laptop does not sit completely flush underneath. There is a release catch underneath the laptop that holds the battery which is connected to another large piece of plastic. That large piece of plastic in one corner does not sit flush. I've tried reworking it but it bulges out in one corner. I cant think what happened it but its over 1 year old now and I have no warranty.

It only bulges out a small bit but want to know what can I do with it ? Would a regular PC repair store be able to fix it or do I need to get on to HP ? Anyone else have this problem ?

Attached is 3 pics I got from an Ipod touch. The first picture is the entire bottom of the DV6 6053. The battery is at the top and there is a large plastic square (RAM held etc) below that.

The bottom right is the area that is causing me trouble. The next two pictures hopefully show the bulge from the plastic in the bottom right. The other corners sit flush. Its feels like it was never put back together properly and just needs to be snapped in but I cant do anything with it. I could nearly use my nail and pick it out more.

That access panel is 'locked' down by the battery latch (slide to an extreme) and several little clips around the perimeter of the panel. The clips are extremely easy to knock off... especially if it is the first time you open up your computer. Some of the panel's clips are either broken off or just not seated properly. A new access panel is ~35$US and certainly user replaceable

Thanks for that. I didn't know what to make of it. I take the access panel is broke as no matter how I tried to close it the panel wont site flush. Do you know where I could get an access panel ? It would just be a matter of bringing it to a repair shop or maybe doing it myself.

hp parts is the only place I know. The clips don't get broken off when you install a new panel... the problem is getting to understand the situation, when you try to remove it for the first time. Besides the clips, mine had some double sided tape also. If you purchase a new access panel, you will get intimately familiar when you remove the old one... replacing the new one by yourself should be a snap.. If you want you could probably go the double sided tape method all around... so long as you don't plan on opening it up too many times. If you are brave, try removing the panel. You need to remove the battery FIRST... and then slide the latch the opposite direction. DO NOT pull on the access panel, but wiggle it back and forth until each clip releases. It isn't hard, but it is a learning experience.
    luck

I just took the panel off there and closely examined it. There are lots of small clips around the edge of the panel but none are broken or damaged. When put the panel back in there is a lack of pressure holding the panel in which means there is give when i press with my fingers on in.

The latch is quite hard to deal with. It takes a quite a lot of moving it around to get the panel back in and there doesn't seem to be any preset way of putting it in.

I don't think its the panel that broken but there is something awkward about the housing (of the clips) or maybe its broke?

I think except for the top latch, everything is dependent on the access panel... there are two or three different form factors of the clips if you examine things closely... I bet one is missing, but if not the best you can do is make sure they are positioned correctly when you replace the panel... there is some wiggle room. Double sided tape is always an option.
    luck

Is there an exact series of steps to put the access panel back into place ? I tried for several minutes trying to put it in smoothly and it doesn't go. It took quite a while with a lot of pressure applied to get it in.

I checked and there are clips missing but they are from the other side that sits in flush.

I don't know what duct tape would do but maybe it might bulk up the clips on the right hand side ? Is that the idea ?

when I replace the one on mine, I start at the bottom edge and wiggle things into place until I get to the top latch. As I said, things have some play, so you have to make sure that the clips actually stick. BTW, I said DOUBLE SIDED tape... NOT DUCT tape! Leaving for the day... best of luck

    Hi.

    totally forgot about this thread.

I had a notebook with a panel like that, I was looking for screws to remove, I asked how to remove it, the slider switch to realise the battery, slide it the other way and the bottom panel should pop-up so you can get you finger in to lift it up, you have to use a bit of force, to re-fit look around the edges of the panel for big clips , that side is fitted first and then just press it down working around the edges.

    John.

thanks everyone for the response. I went through the task with the points outlined and got the bottom right to fit flush. I don't know if its a short term thing or completely resolved. It was a pain in the neck and thought I would have to get HP to do it.
