This is basically a response to this thread
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-pavilion-notebooks/633646-hp-dv6t-warning-buyers.html
People think that the 1GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon is a 7470m, and the 2GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon is a 7690m.
The 1 GB option is actually a 7690m
and the 2 GB option is a 7690m.
Which are both basically equivalent to the 6770m. Apparently they have two 1GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics things, and have been telling people the 1GB s 7470m when it is in fact a " 1 GB duo 7690m"
12/26/2011 11:21:12AM Agent (Andrea A.): "For the 1GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon(TM) [HDMI, VGA] this is 1GB Duo 7470."
12/26/2011 11:22:31AM Petey: "I was told it was a 7690 by another agent."
12/26/2011 11:23:23AM Agent (Andrea A.): "Oh! I am sorry, there were actually two 1GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon(TM) [HDMI, VGA] on our records here."
12/26/2011 11:23:39AM Agent (Andrea A.): "We have 1GB Duo 7470 and 1GB Duo 7690."
12/26/2011 11:24:24AM Petey: "So which one do you get when you order the DV6t"
12/26/2011 11:25:30AM Agent (Andrea A.): "It would be the 1GB Duo 7690."
12/26/2011 11:26:54AM Petey: "So for the HP Pavilion dv6t series the +$75 graphics card upgrade is the 1gb Duo 7690?"
12/26/2011 11:27:36AM Agent (Andrea A.): "Yes, you are right."
12/26/2011 11:28:17AM Petey: "So if I was get get one of those 7470ms in the computer, what can I do?"
12/26/2011 11:29:08AM Agent (Andrea A.): "You may send a complaint to us, and we will be providing you the right resolution on it."
12/26/2011 11:29:43AM Petey: "Because I was reading some forums and people were told the 1gb is the 7470m, such as you said the first time."
12/26/2011 11:29:52AM Agent (Andrea A.): "I also verified that with our product specialist and he said that it is the 1gb Duo 7690 you will be getting."
12/26/2011 11:30:41AM Agent (Andrea A.): "That's when there was two options for the 1 GB."
I have also talked to two other agents and they have said the 1GB option is a 7690m
-
This is correct, various people have confirmed this is the truth!
-
Ah, I really hope this is true! I was worried I'd have to return mine when it arrives. I've actually been kind of down the past couple days from the thought of going through so much of a hassle
Thanks!
-
But a note to those who have recently bought theirs. The 7690 GPU is not worth sending back your 6770m laptop for it. It is technically an overclocked 6770 with very minimal improvements. Plus, it is more expensive and it is a 2GB gpu - you will probably never use more than 1GB on your gpu on this sort of laptop.
This is not to say for future buyers, the 2GB 7960 is much better for gaming than the 7470. If you plan to be gaming on a laptop you will want the 7690 regardless of how much extra memory it has. -
I would honestly wait, tomorrow they might have a new answer to the same question as they have proven before. Several people asked and several people were told that it's 7470M. HP agents seem to be very confused about this issue. I'll try again.
CustomerMichael
Initial Question/Comment: HP DV6T 1GB graphics card
9:39:42 PM AgentDarlene M.
hello Michael, I understand that you wish to know the exact model number for the 1GB graphics card on the dv6t, am I correct?
9:39:51 PM CustomerMichael
I would just like to know the name of the graphics card offered as 1GB option on HP DV6T, DV6T Select Edition and DV6T Quad Edition models
9:40:01 PM CustomerMichael
yes, correct
9:40:31 PM CustomerMichael
I was told previously by another agent, that it is 7470M
9:41:12 PM AgentDarlene M.
Okay, please allow me a couple of minutes to check on this.
9:41:21 PM CustomerMichael
Alright
9:43:53 PM AgentDarlene M.
Okay, thank you for patiently waiting.
9:45:08 PM CustomerMichael
Did you find out the answer?
AgentDarlene M.
I am still checking this here on our end, please allow me a another couple of minutes for this.
9:48:14 PM CustomerMichael
No problem
AgentDarlene M.
The exact model numbers for the dv6t and dv6t select edition would be 7690 and for the dv6t quad it is 6490.
9:55:43 PM CustomerMichael
ok
9:56:04 PM CustomerMichael
so the Quad has a worse 1GB option that DV6T and DV6T select edition?
Darlene M.
It has a lower number compared to those of the dv6t and dv6t select edition, however, with 2GB, you can get a 7690 model number for the GPU.
9:59:52 PM CustomerMichael
Ok, what about DV7T and DV7T quad editions?
10:00:02 PM CustomerMichael
1GB option
AgentDarlene M.
Both of them have the 7690 model number for the 1GB option.
AgentDarlene M.
The cause, is an embargo from AMD, which prevents us from getting too specific (online) on which graphics chipset is offered because the chipsets have not yet officially launched. I do apologize for this, Michael.
CustomerMichael
So was the embargo lifted?
10:05:06 PM CustomerMichael
and the current information you provided could be taken as a solid fact
10:05:20 PM CustomerMichael
so when I ask tomorrow another agent wouldn't say somethind different
10:07:53 PM AgentDarlene M.
Regrettably, we still do not have any visibility as to when the embargo will be lifted, Michael.
10:09:22 PM CustomerMichael
So the information can change? Can you guarantee those specific graphics cards when I make an order?
10:10:33 PM AgentDarlene M.
Rest assured that the information I provided to you is correct, Michael, and I do apologize for the confusion. -
-
Receiving my dv6t tommorow (ordered the day the update was made), will know if its a 7690m, got the 100 dollar version when there was 4 choices. I am more curious if they also sliently updated the 1080p screen (from TN to IPS) since the new Envy 15 has a IPS screen now and the upgrade cost is the same.

Just spoke with a rep in chat as well and she confirmed the same model number. With all of this in mind, is there any reason to go with the 2gb version? Doesn't seem like the extra 1gb would be utilized, given the laptop. Thoughts?
12/27/2011 09:44:19AM Session Started with Agent (Shayna P.)
12/27/2011 09:44:19AM Brian: "What are the model numbers of the video card options for dv6t Select Edition build?"
12/27/2011 09:44:21AM Agent (Shayna P.): "Thank you for contacting HP Home & Office Store Chat. My name is Shayna. Welcome to HP Red Tag Sale!"
12/27/2011 09:44:29AM Agent (Shayna P.): "I’m absolutely able to handle this situation today, let’s get started."
12/27/2011 09:44:34AM Agent (Shayna P.): "Hi, Brian."
12/27/2011 09:44:48AM Brian: "Good afternoon"

12/27/2011 09:45:23AM Agent (Shayna P.): "I see."
12/27/2011 09:45:34AM Agent (Shayna P.): "Sure, I am happy to answer your query. It is always a trademark of HP to help out its loyal customers."
12/27/2011 09:45:45AM Agent (Shayna P.): "Brian, can I put you on hold for one to two minutes? I will have to scan my resources for you."
12/27/2011 09:45:55AM Brian: "Go right ahead."
12/27/2011 09:46:17AM Agent (Shayna P.): "Thank you."
12/27/2011 09:47:10AM Agent (Shayna P.): "Thank you for waiting."
12/27/2011 09:47:23AM Brian: "Of course."
12/27/2011 09:48:57AM Agent (Shayna P.): "The 1GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics has 1GB Quad 7690."
12/27/2011 09:49:18AM Agent (Shayna P.): "The 2GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics have 2GB Quad 7690 also."
12/27/2011 09:49:31AM Agent (Shayna P.): "I hope the information is able to assist you."
12/27/2011 09:49:41AM Brian: "Thank you very much. That is all I needed."
12/27/2011 09:49:57AM Agent (Shayna P.): "You are welcome."
12/27/2011 09:50:02AM Brian: "Have a good day"
12/27/2011 09:50:04AM Session Ended
12/27/2011 09:50:04AM Agent (Shayna P.): "Do you have any other questions that I can help you with?" -
Can someone harass poor HP agents a little more about 1GB on Quad Edition.
-
I inquired about the Quad edition and was given the same story. 7690 on both. No need to go with the 2gb version if they are both the 7690, correct?

Thank you for contacting HP Home & Office Store Chat. My name is Mary. Welcome to our Holiday Sale. I am happy to assist you today, let’s get started.
12:58:03 PM DJ
Good afternoon Mary. I am inquiring about: Whate are the model numbers for the 1gb and 2gb video card upgrades on the HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition series?
12:59:16 PM Mary B.
Let me check that, DJ, do you mean another model aside from HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition series?
12:59:56 PM DJ
I am wanting to know what the video card options are for HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition.. Shows 1gb and 2gb but not model numbers
1:00:35 PM Mary B.
I see, sure.
1:03:05 PM Mary B.
For the 1Gb it is 1GB Quad 7690.
1:04:20 PM Mary B.
For the 2GB that is 2GB Quad 7690.
1:04:55 PM Mary B.
Both have AMD Radeon graphics card.
1:05:39 PM DJ
Would you mind double checking on that for me? A forum I am on is saying that the quad 1gb is actually coming with 1GB Radeon HD 7470M instead of the 7690 for the 1GB option
1:06:30 PM Mary B.
Sure, DJ.
1:08:50 PM Mary B.
That is the most updated graphics card that we have for the dv6t quad, this information was given to us last week.
1:09:56 PM DJ
Alright, thank you Mary. In the event that I order my laptop and it comes in with the 7470M, I could contact customer service for a return or partial refund, I assume?
1:10:55 PM Mary B.
Yes, you can contact us back, DJ if you want to return the item or for refund.
1:11:08 PM DJ
Thank you. Have a good day. -
Haha, thanks. Like I said, different story every day. Check my chatlog from yesterday. We need more harassment about Quad 1 GB option, charge forward NBR warriors!
-
so anyone with a screenshot of that 1gb 7690?
-
I asked about the graphics card of dv6 select edition vial email, the answers are like these,
"Honestly, there are two 1GB graphics card options-1GB AMD Radeon HD 6490M and 1GB AMD Radeon HD 6770M. The reason we don't name them in the configurator is, our Production Team will be the ones to decide which type of card to be installed, for as long as it's 1GB. Hopefully, that answers your question. "
more bad news,
"I understand that you want to know if the 2GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon installed in your HP Pavilion dv6t Select Edition customizable Notebook PC is only of one type which is the AMD Radeon 6770m. We appreciate that you have contacted us on this matter.
It is only labeled 2GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon since it will be HP Engineers and our Production Team who will decide if it will be the graphics card from 6490M/6770M." -
Got my new dv6t today. I got the $100 card when there was 4 options. I can confirm that it is a 7690m XT, the 1080p remains to be TN, not ips like the new ENvy 15.
-
How the F*** am I supposed to buy a dv6tqe when no one knows for sure what graphics card will be inside the f***ing laptop!!!!
I just spoke to an agent/live assistant and she couldn't tell me what card I would be getting, but she did apologize! Then I called customer service/sales and the guy told me the 1gb = 6670 & the 2gb = 6700.....what's going on! A bunch of monkeys at HP! How can a company conduct business like this. Same thing when people first ordered the new Envy, they had no idea what card they were getting.
I seriously don't know what to do now. Who could give me the answer to this simple question? -
Just spoke to another agent. I starting to waste my time, I think....LOL.
Here is the log:
Session Started with Agent (Kristen Y.)
12/28/2011 07:53:06PM Mike C.: "What graphics card will be shipped, if I purchase a dv6t quad editon online/customizable? Please give me the model number of the 1gb & 2gb."
12/28/2011 07:53:17PM Agent (Kristen Y.): "Thank you for contacting HP Home & Office Store Chat. My name is Kristen. I would be able to assist you with this issue today, let's get started."
12/28/2011 07:54:30PM Agent (Kristen Y.): "I understand that the graphics card for this model has not been clearly specified in the product information. However, let me check my resources if I can pull up some information."
12/28/2011 07:54:42PM Mike C.: "ok thanks"
12/28/2011 07:55:46PM Agent (Kristen Y.): "You are welcome."
12/28/2011 07:57:14PM Agent (Kristen Y.): "Thank you for the patience in waiting."
12/28/2011 07:58:16PM Agent (Kristen Y.): "As what I have checked, the 2GB Quad has the 7690 , while the 1GB Quad can either be 7690 or
6490."
12/28/2011 07:58:54PM Agent (Kristen Y.): "Currently we are having an issue determining the right graphics card for the 1 GB version."
12/28/2011 07:59:07PM Agent (Kristen Y.): "We do apologize, however, our resources right now is limited."
12/28/2011 07:59:16PM Mike C.: "Why would the 1gb be one or the other....how could I know for sure if I was to get the 7690?"
12/28/2011 07:59:23PM Agent (Kristen Y.): "We are unable to distinguish as well at which is which."
12/28/2011 08:00:18PM Mike C.: "It's very difficult to purchase something and not knowing what you got.....like it's a big surprise. This is not a good way to do business....I'm sorry."
12/28/2011 08:01:00PM Mike C.: "But If I ordered the 2gb, would I be guaranteed to get the 7690?"
12/28/2011 08:01:10PM Agent (Kristen Y.): "I apologize, Mike. I suggest that you please contact our HP Technical Support to further check on it. You may contact them at 1-800-474-6836."
12/28/2011 08:01:28PM Mike C.: "Ok, thanks for you time. I will call them."
12/28/2011 08:01:32PM Agent (Kristen Y.): "Yes, the 2 GB has the 7690."
12/28/2011 08:01:57PM Session Ended
Now I'll be forced to get the 2gb card to be assured I'm getting the 7690!
I should have the choice if I'm getting the 1gb......I don't want the 6490!
What a joke this is.....now they have pissed me off!
Today I returned the dv6z, when I recieve my Envy 17 next week, I'll probably return it! -
well dammit... they really want us to fork over that extra 75 bucks.

A brand new day, a brand new agent, now they don't know anything again.

12/29/2011 08:49:59AM Agent (Janna B.): "Hi, Lauren."
12/29/2011 08:50:03AM Agent (Janna B.): "Good morning!"
12/29/2011 08:50:11AM Agent (Janna B.): "Thank you for considering HP for your computer needs."
12/29/2011 08:50:14AM Lauren: "good morning"
12/29/2011 08:50:41AM Lauren: "I would like to know the specific name of the video cards offered as 1GB and 2GB options on DV6T Quad Edition"
12/29/2011 08:50:54AM Agent (Janna B.): "I see."
12/29/2011 08:50:59AM Lauren: "the model number"
12/29/2011 08:51:07AM Agent (Janna B.): "Let me check on that please."
12/29/2011 08:52:22AM Agent (Janna B.): "Hi, Lauren."
12/29/2011 08:52:45AM Agent (Janna B.): "It wasn't mentioned here."
12/29/2011 08:53:01AM Agent (Janna B.): "Rest assured that this part has passed HP's standard."
12/29/2011 08:53:26AM Lauren: "but I would like to know what exactly am I buying"
12/29/2011 08:53:52AM Agent (Janna B.): "It is actually 1GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon(TM) [HDMI, VGA]."
12/29/2011 08:54:02AM Lauren: "Some agents told me it's 7470M some told me 7690M"
12/29/2011 08:54:11AM Lauren: "you are telling me it's not mentioned"
12/29/2011 08:54:20AM Lauren: "were those other agents lying then?"
12/29/2011 08:54:59AM Agent (Janna B.): "I understand but if you really want to get the model, please contact our HP Technical Support Team for the details."
12/29/2011 08:55:13AM Lauren: "I contacted them before"
12/29/2011 08:55:27AM Lauren: "they told me that they don't know anything and sales should know it"
12/29/2011 08:55:40AM Lauren: "since they are the ones selling the laptops"
12/29/2011 08:55:46AM Agent (Janna B.): "I see."
12/29/2011 08:56:49AM Agent (Janna B.): "However, there are restrictions that we follow that only HP and the 3rd Party knows which we were not informed about."
12/29/2011 08:57:42AM Lauren: "could you elaborate what does that mean? The fact that Radeon has not officially released the video cards?"
12/29/2011 08:59:19AM Agent (Janna B.): "Some details of the pc's specifications were not mentioned that only HP and the part provider knows."
12/29/2011 08:59:44AM Lauren: "So I, as a customer am not entitled to know them?"
12/29/2011 08:59:57AM Agent (Janna B.): "I would love to share it to you but I don't have the information." -
A brand new agent, 10 minutes later. He says Quad 1Gb option is a weak 6490M.
12/29/2011 09:05:30AM Session Started with Agent (Cathy D)
12/29/2011 09:05:30AM John: "Video card model number on DV6T Quad Edition"
12/29/2011 09:05:36AM Agent (Cathy D): "Thank you for contacting HP Home & Home Office Store Chat. My name is Cathy. I am absolutely glad to assist you today. Let's get started."
12/29/2011 09:05:48AM Agent (Cathy D): "Hello, John."
12/29/2011 09:06:20AM Agent (Cathy D): "I understand that you want to know the graphics card model of the HP dv6t Quad Edition notebook PC, correct?"
12/29/2011 09:06:26AM John: "Hello, my question is about the model of the video cards offered as 1GB and 2GB discrete options on DV6T Quad Edition."
12/29/2011 09:06:49AM Agent (Cathy D): "I see."
12/29/2011 09:07:18AM Agent (Cathy D): "Please give me a minute or two, while I check it here."
12/29/2011 09:09:16AM Agent (Cathy D): "Thank you for your patience."
12/29/2011 09:09:47AM Agent (Cathy D): "The said PC comes with the following graphics cards: 2GB Quad 7690 and 1GB is Quad 6490."
12/29/2011 09:10:19AM John: "thanks you very much"
12/29/2011 09:10:25AM John: "have a great day"
12/29/2011 09:10:27AM Agent (Cathy D): "You are welcome." -
I'm so tempted in ordering the dv6t quad before this coupon NBT2867 (-$375) expires 1/3/12. I guess I'll have to pay the extra $75 for the 2gb card.
Does anyone know what happens to the returned laptops. Do they sell them as refurbished or do they just inspect them and sell them as new?
Reason I'm asking since they have the 21-day return policy, I took advantage and ordered 3 different laptops, try them all out, & keep the one that I like the most. It's kind of weird that they would have such a policy but it's great for us! -
Hmmm...I might take my chances and order one, anyway...for $700 (with coupons), it has potential to be a good deal, and if the return policy is fairly relaxed, it makes me less worried. Between this and my dislike for me current HP laptop, I should be averted, but I'm not.
-
i guess we just all have to wait
-
bah! im 99.9% sure the +$75 graphic card upgraded is the 6490m.
-
On 12/22/11 and also on 12/23/11 speaking with two different reps told me the dv7t has the 6770m 1gb and 2gb. They used to also have a 6490 1gb option that was discontinued and now just 6770m 1gb and 2gb im assuming its the same for dv6, now the envy might be a different story, but 6770m is a good card. And whether u like it or not pretty much the same card as the supposed 6790. (With the "TX" version being 5-10% more powerful from what I gather)
-
-
-
i still don't see how they can drop the 1gb 6770m's price from $100 to $75 without dropping the price of the 2gb version. just doesn't make sense. the way i see it, they're trying to unload the crappy 6490m and the overkill 2gb 6770m stocks.
-
Received on December 27, 2011
-
i am assuming that this goes for ALL the dv line gpu upgrade. irregardless if its the dv6t/dv7t standard, quad or select editions. the 1gb is the 6490m, the 1gb 6770m no longer exists.
-

12/31/2011 09:09:01AM John: "If I order a new notebook with 1GB Radeon card on a DV6t, which card do I get: the 7690 or the 7470, or can I specify which one I want?"
12/31/2011 09:09:42AM Agent (Eve D.): "It would be the dv6t 1GB Duo 7690."
I think that if you order a new HP notebook you are best off getting the graphics card info in writing prior to paying.... -
There is much comedy in this thread. The next person to grab them in chat should link to this, maybe it would help one of their managers to figure out is going on.

i'm putting off my purchase till those cards are properly listed on the site or probably get a dv6z with the 6750m. -
Am I interpreting this thread correctly when I said that if I got a dv7t quad that I should be fine with respect to the GPU whether I get the 1 GB or the 2GB? It seems like the concern lies with the dv6t. Is that correct?

Agent (Maya D.): "The video card model that comes with your dv6t QE is a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 6570 GDDR5 graphics card, for HDMI and VGA."
12/31/2011 09:17:17AM Jeff: "Ahh okay thank you, could you tell me which laptop I could purchase that comes with either the 6770M or the 7690M?"
12/31/2011 09:17:51AM Agent (Maya D.): "Sure! One moment please."
12/31/2011 09:18:04AM Jeff: "Perfect, thanks."
12/31/2011 09:21:32AM Agent (Maya D.): "Thank you for patiently waiting."
12/31/2011 09:21:37AM Agent (Maya D.): "Sorry for the delay, Jeff."
12/31/2011 09:21:52AM Jeff: "no problem"
12/31/2011 09:23:00AM Agent (Maya D.): "The dv7t Quad Edition uses the 7690M graphics card."
12/31/2011 09:24:01AM Agent (Maya D.): "Also, the dv6t Select Edition uses the 6770M graphics card, when you choose the 2GB option." -
edit: This is amazing. Of course, it is probably also what they wanted to happen or they would have specified which graphics card you were getting. Best guess is that they still have some 6490/6770m to clear out but they're now getting 7470m/7690m in as well, so it could be weeks or even months before they update the graphics card options. Not sure why they couldn't just make the 6490m the standard option, with +10 for 7470m, +85 for 6770m, and +110 for 7690m, but maybe tough decisions like this are why they wanted to get rid of their computer business last year... -
Egad.... guess they won't have this issue clarified by Tuesday.
Refurbed units are looking better and better.
With refurbished DV6s at least you know what you are buying before you pay. -
The HP site also lists some preconfigured and ready to ship units as having the 1Gb and 2Gb 6770M graphics, but none of those units can be discounted or accept any coupons so apparently, you pay for the knowing... argh.

Thanks everyone for all your input and efforts so far!
I ordered the following setup:
HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition customizable Notebook PC
1. My understanding now is that the dv6t and the dv6t select edition both SHOULD have 6770m or equivilent and the confusion is about the Quad Edition? If that's the case it's very odd. Why would they gimp the supposedly more powerful quad edition??
2. Also when did all this start do we have dates? I ordered mine on the 12/22/2011 would that make a difference?
It would be very odd indeed if the type of video card you got was at the whim of the person putting your laptop together. I am hoping they didn't gimp the one that people with a coupon bought because that's how I got this one. Please everyone keep us up to date as to what you end up getting
3. ( do we have any confirmed 6490m people?) Mine should be in by mid to late next week, I'll make sure to post.
4. Finally, would be we allowed to send it back in and request the proper card if we do get the gimped one?
I spoke with a rep today and she told me should couldn't find anything out because the software she uses to find out is updating and that she had to restart her computer.
Evidentally they also close early on new years eve. -
Well I just spoke with a guy on there from tech support he asked for my exact product and serial number + my email address etc. He told me the card in my laptop was this one: AMD Radeon HD 7690M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
He gave me a ref. ID for our conversation. I would encourage anyone who is concerned to do this as well. It's still not proof of which card is actually in there, but at least if the wrong one is present I can throw a fit with some backing. I used the tech. support this time not sales, the one where you have to give them your serial number as well as the product number. I got my serial number from the "order" section on HP's website it's probably also on the recipet.
Earlier I also sent them an email through their website before I found my serial number. If they respond with a different answer I will let everyone know. I hope this helps someone but of course until I get a working laptop with all the right parts in it I am not breathing any sigh of relief.
Again, I must ask if anyone actually DID receve a laptop in their hands that has the bad video card?
My convo with hp (the relevant part):
-
@zrchrn - well i certainly hope that it is indeed the 1GB 6770m as i am looking to get a dv6 with an intel setup and that card.
happy new year everyone! -

This was their chat line. Go here: HP Products
Or go to the very bottom of the website under tech support and keep choosing the chat option. You have to have ordered so you can have a serial number to put in on the second screen. -

well i just spoke w another rep on my dv7t and was told im receiving the 7470 which is very disappointing and will most likely be returned
