Hi. Approx. 3 days ago i started hearing a little unusual sound from fan. It is buzzing sound like when a fan or motor gets dried, and because of it My notebook vibrates a little. It can be heard very clearly in silent room ,when Room cooler or fans are turned off. It is very hot in my country and rooms temp is 35C. So is it because of heat which has some how made my laptop fan to make such sounds. Now I have brought my notebook in Airconditioned room but still it exists. Should I worry about it or it will get settled down automatically. I bought this notebook about 2 months ago.
Please if somebody has faced such situation, tell me what to do..

Hi
I had the same problem, my fan started to make grinding sound two weeks ago.
I had this laptop for ten months, but I must say with heavy use (about 15 hours a day) and I also live in very hot country. and I always clean fan vents with air spray to clean remove the dust (which is very common here)
I had either send it to repair shop (no hp service in my country), or try to repair it myself. I opted for the second choice (I already dissembled it once, you can use the service manual for that), I used small amount of oil lubricant (tiny drop using syringe) to lubricate fan shaft. at first there was no change but after starting the laptop for few minutes the sound disappeared and the fan returned to normal operation.
Hoping this little adventure may help you, but if your laptop under warranty and hp service is available, then I don't think you have to go my way!! -
I don't know how to open it. It is under warranty but it is very difficult to send it to vendor shop. If I leave it like this, will it hurt notebook fan. Cuz in my country sometimes things like doors get hard in summer and sometimes get fixed automatically after this season.
How many hours are safe for constant work on this laptop? I usually use it for 18 hours a day ! And I play games too.. -
WOW 18 hours a day!!
do u ever sleep or eat or ......!!!
as far as I know if the laptop temp. remain within normal range (for me idling 45-48 C / gaming with hp coolsense on 79-82 C) there will be no serious issue beside the fan condition may become worse (mine didn't even start after a cool boot and causing fan failure warning screen).
to summarize, first of all use air spay to clean any dust accumulated in fan, and second keep monitory your laptop temp. (use CPUID HM for that)
wishing u all the luck -
My idle temps are 45-53 C and during gaming it may reach upto 85 C with coolsense on coolest mode.
Is there a way to lubricate the fan without opening the laptop? will it hurt the fan if I keep using the laptop in this condition.. -
your temp. is within normal range.
you can't lubricate the fan without opening the laptop.
and yes, the fan eventually may stop working (like mine) if the problem persist.
here is a link to service manual if u want to take a look:

What your fan stopped working? But you told that you lubricated it and then it started working again?
-
No, first there was a grinding sound, but it was working. I checked the temp. and was normal, but after few days, it stop working after a cold boot (so I had to try reboot in order to get it spin). Then finally I decided it was time to do something, so I dissembled my laptop and lubricated the fan, currently it work normally and I keep monitoring my temp. just in case.

Is there any sign or clue that help me preventing the warranty from getting void. I just don't want to open it cuz I may void my warranty. And the repairers here in my country just doesn't care about other people machinary so thats why I don't to take to any repairer
-
As far as I know, there is no sign or clue that could void warranty, and as long as u don't damage or modify the laptop during dissembling, the warranty should be still valid.
-
No offense but thats weird. I will try opening it with the help of your link.
Did your fan sound the same as mine ??? -
and did your laptop vibrate???
-
the sound is the same. but mine didn't vibrate.
-
I am planning to remove the keyboard only and them apply some lubricant to fan. Will it work
-
you can't access the fan if u remove the keyboard only, you have to remove upper cover in order to reach the fan, and be careful to use tiny oil drop only.
