This is among one of the crazier things I've ever encountered with a laptop but if you look closely at the attached image, you'll see what I'm talking about.

This issue occurred while at work. I gamed a bit on my break today and a little when I probably should've been working. I played a combination of black ops, which wasn't as bad as people dubbed it to be on PC, as well as good ole CS:S. However, this issue appeared over an hour after the last game I played.

I picked up my laptop to take it into the other room and when I rested it down I looked away for a second to plug in my power adapter and when I came back I saw several distorted lines and colors, similar to what you'll see in the other picture I have attached.

Thats when I noticed the small hole in my display, that definitely wasn't there before. When I put my finger to it, it was white hot and left a nice burn on my thumb. I'm assuming a part of the backlight was running so hot, that it burned its way straight through and when the plastic melted into the screen assembly, it must've gotten on something important.

I can't say for sure, all I can say is I'm happy Amazon will be replacing it.

See the attached images for the damage.

that looks like a short circuit in the screen assembly, not related to the heat output of the labtop as we conventionally define it (CPU+GPU+HDD+RAM). pretty insane looking though! hope you are not hurt

Gotcha... either way it was pretty crazy. I'm also kinda pissed about it but luckily I made a right call dealing with Amazon over HP. I should have a replacement by Monday....

It actually burned my thumb pretty good but nothing I can't live with. I think it was actually electrocuting me, rather than burning me, which would coincide with the short circuit theory..... still nuts though.

    Thanks HP..... :/

I would still contact HP regarding this. I do not know what they would or could do, but it still seems as if they need to be aware.

Quite insane if it's the backlight "burning" through the actual plastic (which I don't even thing is in direct contact with it). HP can probably market this as the "brightest most powerful" screen though.
