I just purchased an HP 6C53NR and did a system restore using the utility that HP provides so that I would keep the essential software and drivers without the bloatware that comes preinstalled. After that was done, I ran all of the Windows Updates and installed Catalyst 12.1, but I'm having problems with artifacting and sleep/hibernation modes. On YouTube videos, noticeable green lines/shapes appear while going into and out of full screen mode. Sometimes, after existing full screen, the video is a black rectangle at first.
The major problem I am experiencing is with sleep/hibernate. Upon entering those states, the computer shuts down. When restarted, it says that Windows did not shut down correctly and upon the desktop being displayed, an error message pops up. I can take a picture of this error message if it would be helpful, because the problem occurs 100% of the time.
If any more information would help, I would be glad to provide it.
Thanks
EDIT: I uninstalled the AMD drivers, cleaned them using driver sweeper, reinstalled the HP drivers, then finally reinstalled Catalyst 12.1 over them and now I have no problems with artifacting. The sleep/hibernation problem still exists though. When I press the sleep or hibernate button, the computer turns off the screen but all of the lights remain. After awhile, it will shut down (which is why the error message displays), but while it is frozen the only way to shut it down is through holding down the power button. I have the .dmp files created during the two error messages, if those would be helpful as well.

Well, I found the solution to my problem. Instead of this becoming one of those threads that people google and find the question but see no solution, here's how I fixed it:
You need to perform a hard-reset.
- Shut down the laptop and remove the power cord and battery so that no power is supplied
- Open the lid, and hold the power button down for 30 seconds. I repeated this three times and even held down the QuickWeb button to be certain that all power was drained and a hard reset occurred
- Turn the laptop back on and enter sleep mode to see if the problem persists
After I did a hard reset, my problems were gone. I can enter and escape sleep mode and hibernation without freezing. For those with artifacting or problems when switching from the mobile to dedicated GPUs, uninstall the AMD drivers, use driver cleaner, reinstall the ones from HP (necessary for switching between GPUs), and then reinstall Catalyst 12.1 (12.2 does not fully support this model.)
Now I'm on to overclocking
EDIT: So, I'm wrong. That method is only a temporary solution. This worked for putting the laptop into sleep once, then failed every time afterward.
