Guys, i need your help quite urgently. My friends HP just died today. It seems like the GF8400GS went busted. She's out of warranty so we need to find a solution. It seems like HP put their proprietary design GFX card inside their laptops. Any ideas where it's possible to get a replacement one? The cheapest possible... we're poor students)

How far out of warranty was it? If it wasn't long, I might argue a problem with their repair, since the same thing was repaired twice and demand another repair for free. Keep escalating until you get to someone who will approve it. Make sure and fill out the survey you get if they send you any - if you give them a bad survey and say you want to be called - they will have an american or british specialist call you who will be able to do much more than the average person.

Thanx for reply! The last repair had place in august last year, whilst the first one somewhere in the beginning of 2008. The warranty expired about 3 or 4 months ago. I'm going to call their repair centre in Birmingham tomorrow, will see what they say.

Glad to announce that the problem is sorted. Apparently, it's a common issue with dv6000 and HP knows about it. They have extended the warranty on EVERY dv6000 equipped with GeForce 8400GS to 2 years. However, you need to tell the guy on the phone that you KNOW about it, otherwise they won't do it. Still, I'm very impressed with HP customer service!

You said ur friend owns DV6000 laptop. This series of laptops have manufacturing defects and you will get a free laptop replacement even if your friend is out of warranty. Ur replacement will fall under HP ONE TIME SERVICE ENHANCEMENT POLICY

Just call up HP and tell them that ur laptop is not booting up at all. It just shows a black screen with the keylights on ur keypad working. Ur laptop will be benched and you will get a replacement.

Another method is to say that ur wireless button colour never goes BLUE, instead its AMBER in colour no matter what troubleshooting you do. HP will bench up laptop within 7 business days and get you a new one.

Thanx for your reply, thats very helpful!
As i said in my last message, they are coming to pick it up tomorrow morning. Hopefully, they will replace it, but to be honest, i doubt it, since the last two times they only replaced the GFX card. But those two times happened in Estonia, where she bought it from. By the way, HP customer service is REALLY bad in Estonia. As she says, they were about to blame her for the faults beforehand. However, I'm quite pleased with their response here, in UK. But again, I had to push the fact that this is a known issue with dv6000 series.
