I've had the DV6000 for 1.5 years. I bought it from Costco because of their 2 yr warranty. Good thing I did!

    Background
The first thing that went bad with this laptop is the DVD drive. I could live with that, but when the wireless card went bad, I had to call in for support. I did a little research online and found that this laptop has a poor history:

(looks like the intel cpu may not even fix the problem, other ppl are experiencing same heat issues with the intel cpu)

I think the issue with this laptop is the heat from the AMD processor (last time I'm buying something from HP & AMD). AMDs are known to run a little hotter. The heat causes the other components to fail faster. Other people are experiencing failures around 10 month mark, but mine lasted 1.5 years (probably because of the laptop cooler I use daily).

    The Calls:
1st call: So I called support saying that if they simply replace the broken components, that will only fix the broken parts, but it doesn't fix the problem (which is the heat). I suggested replacing the laptop with an Intel CPU instead. The support guy is actually very good but his power is limited so he told me he has to send this to the managers. He told me a manager will contact me in 24-48 hours.

2nd call(48 hrs later): A different support guy, tells me that they meant 24-48 BUSINESS hours. What does this mean? 2 days = 16 BUSINESS hours. Good one HP! Did Carly Fiorina(EX HP CEO) made up this rule?

Now I have to wait up to 6 business days for their call back. I'll let you guys know how the 3rd call goes. I may record it and post it depending how it goes. It just pisses me off that I use this laptop for business purposes and 1 day of offtime is quite significant.

Damnit, this forum is so difficult to use... i can't find the search feature to find my own threads.

    Anyway,
    3rd call
So I've waited for their "48 Business Hours" and I'm not too surprised, they didn't call. So the guy said he would escalate my case to "internal escalation" that could take a couple days.. up to Friday.. that could be 3 days from now.. great. I use my laptop for business.. and no repair done for 12 days. DO NOT BUY HP LAPTOP for BUSINESS!! I'm F***'n sick of this sh*t.

It's probably going to take another 15-20 days for this laptop to get fixed. Could be 30 days or more for me without a laptop. You think I'm going to deal w/ this company again? F*** THEM.

I would not recommend buying a consumer laptop for business use, as their consumer support is rather poor (as you've no doubt noticed). The business division is way better with support.......

And you are correct, the dv6000 models are rather hot (especially the early ones). I have one myself, and fully expect it to burn up at some point.

Yeah, true, but it depends maybe on the time of the day. noontime makes it that hot, but nightime it never even got warm. I use a cooling pad mybe thats why. and my dv6835 was damnn silent. :)
