I bought the DV6000T in January of 2007 with all the features mentioned in my sig. It has been getting very hot (more than usual lately) and performance has been a bit sluggish. I would like to reformat soon, but before doing so, I would like to up the RAM to the max ability, but so far my research has showed a max of 2gb. Is it possible to go beyond this?

And also, I received the Recovery disc, so when I reformat, I'm guessing I can just use that? If I install XP Pro-64 but will I lose all the media button features?

And one last issue before going ahead with all this, I would like to pull it apart and clean out all the dust and what not because I feel this is a good reason for it getting warmer than usual. Any recommendations on this?

    Appreciate your guidance on this!

Before taking it apart, try fixing the overheating simply by spraying inside the computer with a canister of compressed air (to dislodge caked dust), then applying a powerful vacuum cleaner to the fan intake and vents. Taking it apart may not be necessary.

The maximum RAM supported is 4GBs. I have used a DV6000 notebook with that much ram before.

It supports up to 4gb with the latest BIOS.

If you have a 32bit OS, then it can only address around ~3gb maximum.

You will need a 64bit OS to utilize 4gb RAM or more

How would I know if my 6000t has a 64 bit capability?
And I received the media center edition. I would still like to use Media center but would like to have XP Pro 64 Bit, is it possible to retain the HP features and still reformat with a new OS?

    You would need a 64-bit CPU - Intel's Core 2 Duo supports 64-bit.
