HP Pavilion dv6 and dv6t Quad Edition series | HP Official Store

HP just released their new refreshed model of the DV6T. It has the new Ivy Bridge i7 processors going from the 3610qm to 3820qm and with the nVidia 650m graphics card. I was originally gonna get the Envy but the DV6 redesign looks better to me. How will the graphics card compare to the AMD 7750m slated for the Envy with its Ivy bridge refresh? Also I'm planning on having this laptop for about 3 yrs or so so should I get the highest Intel processor or no (I'll be running animation software)?

The 650M in the new dv6 is in the 560M league.
About the 7750m, i didn't see any benchmarks yet.

I should have waited to get one. Now they have backlit keyboards. But they don't have matte screens anymore.

What do you mean? I see:

    15.6-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)

This is what they called the matte screen before.

Regarding the CPU: if you will be using it for tasks where the CPU matters, I would go for the middle one (3720QM). The 3820QM is not worth it unless you are absolutely sure that you will need the extra L3 cache -- otherwise, the performance difference is minimal.

The anti-glare screens are used to cover glossy screens to make them matte, theoretically, it is the same as matte.

It is the same as matte. I'm pretty sure "anti-glare" is just HP's way of saying matte.

you dont need a processor upgrade considering SB?IB are phenomenal processors. as for the 7750m vs gt 650m, the card that the envy's are going to get are going to match if not beat the 650m cause the envy's are suppose to be their premium line. i also like the redesign of the dv series however i have heard bad/subpar reviews about the build quaility just something you should know if you are planning to buy it

The processor upgrade prices are ridiculous right now, no way would I pay for any of the options considering the base model is fine. Good to see the Nvidia 650m upgrade is very reasonable price at $50 or $75.

FYI, there are new HP coupons, one for $400 off a $1,399 config that work on the new dv6t / dv7t, just posted the codes here:

I did that live chat and asked. They said it was not the same 1080p matte screen that they offered before.

When I bought mine it said that the screen was matte not anti-glare.

I dug up the email with my order confirmation from last June. Here is the exact line:

    15.6" diagonal Full HD HP Anti-glare LED Display (1920 x 1080)

They use "matte" and "anti-glare" interchangeably. It might not be the same exact display, but I would be surprised if it wasn't matte anymore.

It seems like HP bumps up the price of ssd upgrade a lot. On the other hands, the mSSD 32G option is now available and only $50. Considering dv6 only has one bay, I just wonder if going with a mSSD + regular HDD would be worth to get a boot in performance like ssd?

Is this the same as the Intel's Smart Response Technology? Does it help with running applications like photoshop, matlab, c compiler, i.e. those applications that take long time to run, compile, without actually installing them in a ssd.

    Thanks

The only picture I see on the HP shopping site for the new models are in the 'promos' on the main page. Nothing is on the specific model site right now.

Can't wait for the dual cores and updated dv4/dm4.

This is perfect, exactly what the original last DV6 should have been. Marginally thinner, backlit keyboard, and MOAR POWER. Just waiting for a dual core version so I can pick it up. :)

    Hi guys,

I would like to see some reviews about this amazing laptop.

Anyone using it? Or everyone waiting for the shipment? :) (idk about the shipping dates)

    Thanks for the responses.
