Im so confused. At first everyone was praising the laptop saying for the Price of what your getting (1920x1080 Full HD) and (1GB Radeon 6770M Graphics Card), ( 2nd generation Intel Quad i7) its an amazing deal with the $375 coupon included, and you cant go wrong with it.

Now i hear people on these forums saying The latest DV6t has a problem with "switchable graphics".

Can someone elaborate more? I was going to buy the laptop had i made up my mind to go 15.6"... Is this problem worth it to not buy it?

AMD is moving from a simple, reliable system where the switchable graphics are controlled by the user (i.e. you tell the machine when to switch) to one that is more automated, but far more complicated and less reliable. It is the same exact idea as Nvidia's Optimus and like Optimus when it was first getting started, it doesn't appear to be working for everyone in all applications. I'm sure AMD will eventually sort it out with driver updates, but for now there are a few glitches here and there.

The hardware in the laptop can't be beat for that price so for me it would definitely not be a dealbreaker, but just beware that there may be some issues with the switchable graphics until AMD and HP get their act together.

    Agree to althernai

As much as would like amd to keep the choice of graphics switching to me, it appears they are moving to a more automated solution like the Nvidia's optimus.

But still it's too early to comment on that, it'll take some time to mature as Nvidia's optimus.

If I were you, I'd keep a keen eye on their progress.

[Moving this to the HP forum as it's more specific to that]

You can find a negative comment or what might seem like a fatal flaw for every laptop if you read enough on this forum, the $375 off coupon is a good one and I wouldn't let yourself be too scared by the reports of issues with the graphics card. Yes, it may not be perfect, but chances are it's getting overblown as being billed as a bigger issue than it really is.

With all due respect, it's only "overblown" if YOU haven't experienced a complete failure of Switachable graphics to switch to the Radeon card, as I had with one of the two DV6's I purchased recently. HP was unable to fix the issue. I emailed their second level tech yesterday to see if they have made any progress. he reported back in the negative...

Just have them build you a new one, honestly.

The switching isn't as reliable, but it always switches for me. Plenty of other users here also have had zero problems with it switching. Its just annoying that the whole process is blinded and that there is a lack of manual control.
