Well, I guess I just found something to hate on my laptop, the damn Tone Controls keep resetting themselves at startup. Is there anyway to prevent this or at least some way to keep my settings from boot to boot? If you don't know what I mean, check the pic below, resetting both of those to zero makes my laptop sound good otherwise, it sounds low and muted. I've also tried the different driver versions in the HP Drivers section here at notebookreview plus some on the net but the drivers either: Have the Tone Controls tab missing or have the tone controls tab but the Enhancements tab missing, both of which are necessary to deliver good sound on this laptop.

Do you have beats audio or similar, it might be reseting the default windows audio setting at startup, so you need to check your startup devices with msconfig or advanced system care free, startup manger.

Yeah did that too by disabling the sttray64.exe (the beats control panel) and it still does it, I prefer CCleaner myself though :)

use msconfig to do a clean startup, that`s disable all startup items and see if the audio still resets , if it does not, you will have to use a process of ilimination to find the culprit.

Okay, figured it out, unfortunately, disabling through startup had no effect whatsoever. Instead, I ran to the task manager, checked the "show processes from all users checkbox" and sorted in alphabetical order by the process name. The two services running for the IDT Audio are: sttray64.exe and stacsv64.exe, the latter one which wasn't available in the startup section is msconfgi (or CCleaner). So, I simply set up all my audio preferences in the windows sound settings, on the task manager right clicked and ended each aforementioned process next, went to my C:\Program Files\IDT\WDM\ and renamed the two processes from sttray64.exe and stacsv64.exe to sttray64.exe.z and stacsv64.exe.z (Hide extensions for known file types must be unchecked in Folder Options) and done. The Tone controls didn't reset themselves after System Restart nor Shutdown. Unfortunately (for some) this also prevents you from modifying the tone controls any further (the tone controls on mine are stuck on '0'), I'll mess around a bit more with it tomorrow to see how I can change the setting from time to time, probably re-enabling both processes above changing controls and then disabling them again.

    We'll see :)

Glad you sorted it, I quite like beats, it far from perfect, but it does give a bit of bass, which i like, tuning the bass and treble down to zero gives a total flat sound to me, I suppose each to his/her own.

I didn't particularly hate it either but my EQ setting didn't seem to preserve from startup to startup, maybe I was just being an idiot and missed a checkbox or something. But yeah, I do prefer it this way, sound comes out a lot cleaner in my opinion.
