    Hey,

I recently bought a DV6z with the Radeon HD 7690m graphics card. As soon as I got it, I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 x64 on it, and have been having trouble ever since. First off, the drivers on HP's website just doesn't work. For the longest time, I couldn't install any of the drivers either from HP's website or AMD's website. When I tried installing from the Catalyst Install Manager, my computer would freeze mid-install, the screen would turn black, and I would have to boot into safe mode to uninstall the drivers to get the computer working again.

A few days ago, my Windows Update picked up a 7670m update, and now automatically installs the drivers when I boot after safe mode. The problem is, the Catalyst Vision Control won't boot, saying that I don't have a compatible AMD card installed. Also, my display is showing up as a 7670m, not a 7690m which means my clock speeds are lower than what they should be.

I'm getting really tired of playing around with the drivers, and I just want this machine to work like it's supposed to.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Is this a dv6z-7000 notebook that has been customized to order (CTO)? From what I'm seeing, it doesn't look like HP is offering the 7690M on the current AMD models (they were offered on the dv6-6cXX models only).

According to the HP, they are offering the following configuration options for the AMD version:

    • AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7600 Series Discrete-Class Graphics
    • 1GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7670M Graphics
    • 2GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7730M Graphics

Use this HP auto detect tool to find out just what model you have.
