Hi, I'd like to add a second hard drive to my new DV7, but I need the caddy/bracket. Are these available seperately, and where? Did a google search and looked on ebay, and found nothing. Also I'm from the UK, which makes it harder to find

I saw in another thread somewhere on here not long ago that you can order the bracket from HP, but the holes didn't quite match up to the drive...something like that.

I think they said it was $40 US for the part, and they were still able to make it work.

Good luck, and post your results if you don't mind...I'm considering the same thing.

i am going to do this too - when the price of the 500gb drive comes down to about $130-150 or so. it's around $180 now so i give it until my bday time (april) next year ;-D

at that time, the price of the bracket should be lower too.

Is the caddy in the DV9000 series identical to the one in the DV6000 series? If it is, I can test it from my old notebook.

Well I emailed HP here in the UK today, they have given me the part number - 480457-001 - Hard Drive Hardware Kit (includes bracket and screws), but no where seems to have it. In their reply back to me, they gave me details of their Authorized service providers in the UK, but they seem to only deal in HP printer parts. Nice one HP support  It seems this part is as rare as rocking-horse sh1t.

Yeah, I'm looking to buy one myself. If anyone finds it I'd like to get a link to it.

That's way too expensive for a piece of metal.

I agree! The hard drive holder out of my PS3 looks pretty similar. I'll report if I get the chance to try it out.

HP apparently charges it's repair houses $60 for the part. You can order it from several different suppliers. One of them is sparepartswarehouse
Just do a google search for "sparepartswarehouse" and enter the part# in their search box: 480457-001

i just ordered this caddy and a 320gb western digital hard drive from amazon.

caddy came out to $34 with shipping and the hard drive came out to $83 with tax.

so my dv7t will have a total of 640gb of storage. woo+!

Where did you get the caddy for the second hard drive, if I may ask? I can't find one at a reasonable price anywhere.
    Thanks!
