Is this HP DV7-2040US laptop the same one as this DV7-2043clbut with a different processor? I've got the 2043cl right now and I tried running the 2040US bios flash and it didn't give any problems. I checked CPU ID and it says it's a PM45 chipset capable of handling quad core + DDR 3. So I guess my question is, if I put a quad core chip + DDR 3 in the 2043cl, will it work?

I have the HP DV7-2040US and the mobo is reported as a Quanta 3624. Maybe that will help you determine if yours will take a quad, if the mobo is the same.

Yup it's the same motherboard :) Guess I'll be getting a quad core CPU for this thing :D Thanks for looking that up, saved me a lot of headache!
