    This is for my cousin.
We have it currently hooked up to his tv. The TV doesnt want to play the laptops AUDIO.
-I right-clicked on the audio button in the taskbar to get ADJUST AUDIO PROPERTIES.
    -Went under the AUDIO tab.
-In the Sound playback section, we tried to change the DEFAULT DEVICE to the TV or whatever, but it was not available as an option.

Do we need a separate cord to make the sound work?

S-Video only transvers the video signal. You need to get another cable (probably with a 3.5mm stereo plug to dual RCA) that you can connect between your laptop's audio out and television.
