Hey all,
i stumbled upon this site looking for a solution to my problem. i am open to any suggestions
The hinges that connect the monitor to the body have broken off on the monitor end. i took the plastic frame off to find that the damage is far past any repair that can be done with superglue.'
once i diagnosed the problem i contacted HP for assistance. they offered to send me "replacement" hinges. it turns out they sent me the wrong part. i called HP again only to find out that they do not offer after market hinges for my notebook and that if i wanted them fixed i would have to send in my notebook in for an outrageous price..... which is not going to happen....
any home fixes? anyplace where i can get a set of aftermarket hinges?

brianstretch Notebook Virtuoso
Check eBay. They'll probably be used hinges stripped from broken notebooks but they'll be affordable.

Service manual for the DV8000
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00701888.pdf
Manual mentions two different hinges depending on the screen being single or dual bulb backlighting.
Friend just han his hinges blow out. Design of the hinge is borderline. Im surprised how few DV8000 owners are mentioning problems vs the DV9000 people.
