I made a guide for doing a clean installation on the DV8305US. This is a bit different from the DV8000T installation guide because the hardware is a lot different. It's an AMD Turion CPU, different BIOS, no SATA driver issues to deal with, and it's also XP Media Center.

The guide can be found here: http://dv8305us.tripod.com/dv8305us.htm

Please it read over and let me know what you think

    Hi,

I read the guide and it is great but one quetion i have is I dleleted the swsetup folder (I know bad idea now LOL) but I did do something that I thing will be ok anyway. I have a program that copied all the drivers into a separate folder with access to all the drivers for later use if needed. My question is will that be the same thing then like the swsetup folder?

If not could I do a reinstall using the hp system recovery and then wont the swsetup folder reappear?

    Thanks

You can use the HP System Restore and then you will have the SWSETUP again.

Check Steps 8 and 9 of the guide (driver and software installation) and if you don't have the drivers/software listed then you should do the system restore. If you aren't sure, do the system restore.

    Superman23,

I read your guide which is very good but I have 2 questions:

First, When I go to download the quickplay with your link I get sent to file abuse page and cannot get file. Any idea?

Secondly, You able to get quickplay to work normally?

    Scott,

I just tried the download link and it still works. By "file abuse page" maybe you mean your network/ISP has blocked the site?

When you open the page there should be a blue logo at the top that says "UP-FILE.COM" If you do not see this then maybe the page has been blocked.

    QuickPlay works normally

Last thing ( I hope LOL)

the quick play is 2.0 I notice that 2.1 is out. Any difference on the 2 versions or should 2.0 be just fine? My system had 2.1

Your notebook is definitely the dv8305us model?

Do you have a directory called HPQPDP located in your SWSETUP?

I am pretty sure mine came with 2.0

my bad forgot to menton that I have the dv8000t. Your guide seems very close to what I would have to do. Will the quick play still work the way u dd it on your machine?

Yes I do have a directory called hpqpdp in my swsetup.

From what I am reading if you have HPQPDP then you already have the installation files for QuickPlay and won't need to download the 2.0 software, but I can't confirm that.

If you have a dv8000t then the guide is only partially correct. The hardware is different on the dv8000t. Does it come preloaded with Media Center or Home/Pro? You should read the dv8000t reinstall guide which is stickied in this forum.

    Superman23,

Figure I would post that I did a clean install using your guide and another guide for the dv8000 and everything went smooth and perfect. I even got the HP Quickplay 2.0 to work. I been hearing that not many if any at all got the quickplay to work on the dv8000t, is that true? Again, I had no problems at all. The system boots into quickplay without starting xp just perfectly.

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Superman23,

Your guide along with the other guide are key to a successful install. Your detail is perfect. You did not miss anything. Great job. I would recommend to all that have the 8000t to use yours and the other good guide together.

It seems that the difference in the hardware are there but the way xp handles them is the same and the swsetup folder should have the correct drivers anyway.

I had xp media center 05 pre installed and used the xpmed05 cd that came with the system (best $10 i ever spent lol)

One note of interest which I found odd but not complaining: I did the clean install with full format of harddrive before I started and at no time did xp ask for product key during install... go figure.

just out of curiosity, is the method of obtaining the xp mce setup outlined in the dv8305 reinstall page legal? all this downloading and newsgroups sounds a little shady...

to be totally honest with you, I find the media editon software is kind of not necessary if you are not hooking the system up to a tv or monitor. I downloaded media player 11 beta and I use that more for all my video or audio. If I do connect to a tv then I use the media edition program.

    thanks for the guide.
This guide is also good for AMD HP Pavilion's, like the dv6000.

Hi Superman! Just joined the forum and was curious about your knowledge of issues with the dv8305us.

I bought mine atthe same time you posted your reinstallation guide

It is timely for me as I am preparing to send it in for some issues...

The DVD burner in fact doesn't burn DVDs - though the specs call for it... I found a forum (which I cannot find now) that stated that due to high demand for these and sourcing of components, HP had issues and were throwing just about any sort of drives in to get them out the door. Heard anything like this?

For a media machine w/Altec Lansing speakers, the sound is very low volume for most DVD movies... any way to boost besides external speakers...

I also find the multimedia software which automatically fires up frustrating. I don't like it... Is it me or is itthat bad???

    thanks!

    GTVdad
