Hello,
I purchased three (3) DV9000 for the holidays and just got around to opening and setting them up last night. Two of the laptops are the DV9008NR and the other is the DV9009CL.
Is it me and my bad eyes or are there dings in the aluminum palmrests? All of the laptops exhibit the same problem. First, I thought the swirl patterns may be causing the problem along with the light reflections but I do not think so.
The cases appears to be a lightweight aluminim and can assume that the manufacturing and assembly processes may have caused the imperfections. I must say that the dings are bugging the #%@^$% out of me.
Has anyone else noticed the imperfections on their palmrests or is it just me?
Thanks

And I haven't seen any 'dings' in any dv9000 or any other HP notebook with the Imprint Finish. -
I just wanted to post a follow up regarding the palmrests. I am not sure what material is used, but there are indeed imperfections. I viewed the palmrests in different light conditions and various angles and they appear each time.
Interestingly, one ding to the left of the touchpad can actually be felt if one runs their finger over the area. Also, I took a drive to the local BestBuy and the DV9008NR on display has the same problem.
I am assuming that either I got a #%@#*& batch of DV9000s or HPs quality controls #%!@#^@%*, because these palmrests are indeed imperfect. All of the laptops come with the Imprint finish and 17" LCDs.
I can return the DV9009CL that I purchased from Costco, but not sure about the other two that I purchased from BestBuy due to their return policies. I am thinking about contacting HP, but not sure that will help either.
Will post an update after I speak to HP. -
certain angles i can see dings.

The dv9000 I received straight from Taiwan came out of the box with a ding on the palmrest to the upper left of the touchpad. The enter key on the numbers pad was ridiculously crooked, overlapping the del key, both keys not working at all. I posted a photo of it in another forum. You aren't imagining things.

I can really understand. I just got a DV 9000 refurb and there are dings in it in multiple places and it looks like hp pryed up the edges of the hinge holes. I have fought with indians pakastanis which all apologize and escalate your case. Hp is a nightmare and their service sucks and I knew before I bought the computer. I didnt want vista and the only way IO could get the 9000 with media edition of windows is to buy refurb. I am scared to send it back in the event they will screw something else up. I have made 15 calls and wasted 2 months playing with them. they want you to wipe your drives and do all kinds of other things to send it in.Hp service is a nightmare and anyone that reads this should beware!I would love to hear of your case. My email is [email protected]. Hp they just wear you down and I sincerely hope someone from HP reads this, but I'm sure they are aware of the games they play. I would guess their business side is better than consumer. they treat you like dirt, but make a nice 17 inch laptop. Its all my fault I guess...especially knowing beforehand about their service. How did you make out and did you have your palmrest replaced???
