    Hi

one day while the laptop was powered the display started to flicker. Didnt think to much of it at the time...

Now i can only start laptop in SAFE MODE and the display will only work if i output to external screen via VGA port. The laptop screen is blank (silver/grey colour) and HDMI out put will not work.

If i try and start in normal mode i get the blue screen, something about a hardware failure. I have attempted to check the log files but they are empty...

I am assuming that my video card is dead, and that replacing the card will mean replacing the entire motherboard. correct?

anything else i should look for?

Yes in case of HP notebooks, the graphic card is soldered to the motherboard. So in case of repair, the technicians will change the entire motherboard. Get your notebook tested by the service engineers soon.
