I need drivers for the hard drive, or at the least find the Make and Model so I can get the drivers myself. HP tried to give me the exe, but I need the inf files so I can fix the MBR I inadvertently copied over. I have a copy of Vista Ult x64 that I downloaded (legal copy from MSDN) but the HDD does not show up, so I'm guessing that I will need those drivers.

If anyone can help in any way this would be much appreciated, I have looked everywhere that I know to and called Tech support to the point of them asking for $50....which I don't have.

    Thanks,
    Tyler

To clarify, do you have, currently, access into the an operating system, which ever version it may be or not?

If you do, then usually installing your models chipset drivers will help to recognize the drive. You can also look up specific driver and part information in the Device Manager. For Vista, simply type Device Manager in the search box in the start menu and it should pop up. If you do not have access to any O.S. currently, I would suggest contacting Microsoft to either redownload the O.S. or to request a disc version as Vista comes with a basic covering of generic drivers and utilities bundled in the operating system to recognize most if not all current drive formats if only on a basic level for functionality.

Its a bit heavier than that I'm afraid. I do have an OS installed, its Ubuntu Hardy (or Beryl). No device manager in there, but there are devices listed in the lshw command :) And no HDD listed in there either.

And like I said, I do have a copy of Vista Ult X64 to use when the time is right, and I just downloaded it yesterday.

So here is what I'm doing...
    1. Enter Vista DVD and let it load
    2. Go to Repair my OS
    * Here is where it doesn't recognize my HDD
    3. Command Prompt
    4. bootrec.exe /fixmbr

I bought it from Best Buy with a Protection Plan so I called them first, they want me to bring it in, but this should be easy! I have also talked to the people in India and they said they would transfer me to L3 techs for $50....no thanks.

Are you trying to do a dual boot setup with the Ubuntu distribution you already have installed?
