    Hi,
    My notebook is:
    DV9500 CTO
    Geforce 8600m 512MB
    Realtek alc268 HD Audio
    Intel Core DUO 2.4ghz

I've searched as best i could on the forum and Internet but have come to the conclusion that there is no support for hdmi sound in xp for my system.

I believe the problem is the 8600m video drivers. The only video drivers i could find are at laptopvideo2go.com( check it out if you haven't it's great :D )
Unfortunately these drivers don't support hdmi audio and so if you plan to downgrade to xp you will not be able to run audio through hdmi :(

But please prove me wrong ...
If anyone has had any success in getting the 8600m hdmi port (audio/video) to work under xp please post!

I would really like to know how to fix this.

P.S. I have also tried setting hdmi/spdif as default in sound settings but only realtek hd audio is available (notebook speakers) :(
My Audio drivers are r1.88. My Video is 163.75

    Thanks in advance!

Well I want everyone to know I'm not giving up on this. I still believe it's possible. It's just a software issue. I need to tinker with the drivers until I get it right. I'll post my solution (I hope  )

Let the games begin! Bring it!

I have a dv6500t. 2GHz C2D, 2GB of RAM, GeForce 8400M GS. Audio through HDMI works fine. What resolution are you using? Some TVs and A/V receivers are picky with their resolutions. My Onkyo receiver won't pass audio unless the resolution of the video is set to either 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p.

I actually have a problem with VISTA, not XP, passing audio over HDMI. My receiver would not even detect an audio signal at any resolution other than 480p and 1080p. One of the many reasons I'm "upgrading" back to XP.

    Hi SauronMOS

Just downgraded my dv6599eo laptop to Windows XP. I cannot get sound over HDMI to work. Could you please tell me how you "enabled" this? (it has the same specs as you describe above).

I think I might need another video and/or soundcard driver. I've used the drivers from http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=165319.

One problem I know of is that audio only works if there's nothing else plugged into the TV, just HDMI. At least for me(on vista though).

Don't think this is the case (for me) as sound over HDMI worked when I had Vista installed. I must be missing something in Windows XP

This laptop is a dv9500 series and I'm running a 8600M MS, since the dv9500 series has many models I can't know which is your model, but I can tell you that your drivers look way out of date. (I could be wrong) because my drivers are 174.32. If I were you I'd check here, HP support because HP is the only place you can get drivers for Nvidia installed on a HP laptop, at lease that's what Nvidia reckons, this could help.

If you don't know which model of the dv9500 series you have just do the auto-detect and it will take you to the Nvidia drivers on the driver page for your model. Got to use IE for auto-detect

    OK,
It has been over a year but I wanted to tell everyone that I finally got hdmi audio to work on my dv9500 in xp :D
I'm not sure what it was exactly because I was uninstalling and reinstalling a lot of things but I believe the solution is to install the nvidia hdmi audio driver.

Just so you know do this at your own risk.

To do this go to nvidia's website, select download drivers, select nforce as product type, select nforce 9 series for product series, select nforce 980a sli for product, then hdmi audio driver or you can go to this url http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_hdmi_audio_winxp_10.3.0.23.html

If it doesn't work try reinstalling the latest realtek drivers. Also reboot your computer when you are connected to your hdmi tv

Alas I do have a new problem. That is I get sound from the tv and my notebook. To fix dvd playback I just select spdif output only in power dvd.

So if anyone knows how to fix the audio issue of sound coming out of both the notebook and tv please post. But I am really happy that now I have spdif available in xp

See patience can pay off even if it takes over a year lol! ;)
