My friend connected his laptop to an external 32 inch television with an HDMI cable, my personal laptop displays my monitor instantly upon connection of the HDMI cable, however, on my friends, no video shows up when he connects it to his TV, ive tried using Nvidia control panel to add displays but it seems it isnt recognized. What could be the issue?

His friends notebook is having issues connecting to a HDTV. It is not being detected.

What TV is it and what drivers is he currently using?

Did he try through Sync Center in control panel, because that's how I got my DV9500 to connect HDMI to DVI

Try this to set up an external TV, first set up the Laptop’s (NVIDIA) Control Panel to enable an external display.

Select the external display as the only screen to view. Do not try to share the display with your laptop.*

Crank up the external display resolution as high as it will go, and select 60Hz. This will give you the best chance of reaching 1080p

Once you reach utopia with the settings save them as a profile (use PROFILES on the Main MENU above).

Thereafter when you plug the HDMI between the Laptop and TV (before switching both on) everything should sort itself out nicely (albeit technology is a strange thing)
If the TV does not automatically load to your preferences (small picture etc) then use the keyboard or mouse to load your saved profile via the TV screen.*

Note: When finished viewing you should find that unplugging the HDMI or turning the TV off, should bring your laptop back to life.
