    Ok so i have a HP DV9623cl and it will only run off the battery. When the adapter is plugged in Vista recognizes it and will display that it is charging. But as time goes on the battery runs out and the laptop turns off. It will not even turn on when plugged in.

    Things i have check;
    i have taken it apart and see no signs of damage anywhere near the power connector or the battery.

    i have tried swapping out the power connector board with no success.

    swapped power adapters.

    swapped batteries.

    updated the bios to the newest version.

    Ran a linux live cd to see if it was windows.

    after all this still no hope. any ideas or points in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advanced.

    What about running it with no battery?

    It will only run off battery power. The ac adapter lights up and is recognized by vista but will not power the laptop or charge the battery.

    Quick Diagnostic:

    1) Take out the AC adapter,battery pack and all external devices (USB,etc)

    2) Hold the power button for 30 seconds to flush residual electricity

    3) Try starting up again only using AC power
