I have an HP DV9700t laptop with the Core 2 Duo T8000 processor running at 2.1Ghz. Does anyone know if this can be upraded down the road to a faster processor with a core 2 of 4 and faster CPU speed. Is it a plug in socket type? I have tried to find out what socket type it is but haven't had much luck.

You won't really need a CPU upgrade, if your current CPU is not bottlenecking the performance.

It is Socket P, and the best CPU it can support is the T9500.

    Thanks for the response.
I am assuming that the T9500 is just a plug in like a normal desktop cpu. I don't know if it's bottlenecking the performance or not. It gets slow at times but I think it's just Vista. The upgrade, if ever, would be down the road a while as I plan on keeping this laptop awhile.

Yes. It is a ZIF socket. So almost the same way as in a desktop. A faster CPU will improve the performance of those applications that require loads of CPU power, such as encoders, image-editing software, compressing tools, FPS games etc. And you will notice a boost only if the T8100 is unsable to run those applications properly.

Normally, a HDD upgrade improves the overall performance in Vista. You could also consider upgrading the RAM if below 2GB.
