I purchased an HP dv6000 less than a year ago and I now face the following dilemma:
Aside from a cosmetic problem with the laptop, a few of my keys on the keyboard fell off. The HP keys are a pain in the butt and no matter how hard I try, I cant seem to reattach them. I'm a student and rely heavily on my laptop for typing.
Now I face the most dreaded problem. Either I use my warranty and have my laptop fixed at Office Max (where it was purchased) or use another route to send it to HP. Several years ago I had a laptop in repair for several months! I cant afford to give up my laptop for so long!
I'm so afraid of this situation that I've considered buying a keyboard and attaching it, rather than having it fixed. What are your experiences? Who should I send the laptop to for repairs? If at all?

Can't you just get HP to send you a new keyboard? My brother had them do that for free and he just replaced it himself. If you b i t c h enough to HP, they'll send you one. Find out.
In his case, he bought a floor model at Sam's club and was concerned because one of the keys were actually missing. He called HP and they sent him a new key board (or keypad). I'll ask him about how difficult it was to install when I talk to him tomorrow. I wouldn't send it in though. Try to get it to come to you this way it's on your own terms. -
Im quite sure keyboard replacement is Do-It-Yourself @ home. They just send you the part and instructions. Its actually not that hard. Id buy a keyboard seperately and do it myself.
Call HP and tell them about it. If their not gonna send you the keyboard then this could be a problem for you -
I think I'm capable of installing the keyboard myself. After taking a closer look I've noticed that the little metal clips that hold the keys are damaged. I will most definitely need a new keyboard.
Could you ask your brother what he said to persuade HP to send him a new keyboard. I find this to be really ridiculous, especially since I've had the laptop for about 7 months. The older HP models had a much more resilient keyboard. -
Send it if it's under warranty. The turn around time from sending to receiving is 5 days. Do it before your warranty runs out.
