I just took delivery of a brand new nc8430 laptop and guess what, HP delivered the wrong specification!

I got an 80GB hard disk instead of a 100GB and a 333MHz RAM (according to CPU-Z) instead of 667MHz.

This is absurd. Mysteriously, HP has "refreshed" its Australian web page and no longer shows my product number! Mine's an RM801PA, but this has been replaced by a RM762PA with the exact same specifications.

Is HP being unethical, i.e. trying to cheat customers? That's because their customer support team asked me if I have saved a screenshot of my configuration, but I didn't. So, it now depends if they'll hold up their end of the bargain.

I need to replace the unit or get it fixed anyway because the one I received has a faulty keyboard ("B" and spacebar keys are stuck and oversensitive, seems like a short circuit).

My unit also comes with a 3 year on-site warranty, but again, when I called, the customer support team said "I don't think you have a warranty". I was shocked by this amateurish response I'm getting. I had to read the entire warranty cover sheet which was provided in the box to her to convince her I've got it right.

HP doesn't seem to have proper local support in Australia because their sales team seems to be in Singapore and their technical support in India, each not knowing what the other is doing.

Your RAM is running at corect speed. DDR2 667 runs at 333MHz due to it is based on DDR(double data rate) technology. Your effective speed is 667MHz but the actual clock speed is 333MHz. This is the same with any modern day RAM.

As for the wrong HDD & warranty, if they advertised it incorrectly then you have a case. Didnt you get any sort of receipt/confirmation email when you ordered? If they refuse to accept it then contact your local consumer protection agency(if any).

    Oh thanks!
The bigger issue is the keyboard. Whenever I hit the "B" key, it registers a space as well and the spacebar will also register if you simply brush over it lightly. Then either keys will get stuck and registers a series of "spaces".

Either way, I've e-mailed them about both issues (because customer support asked me to e-mail so case can be forwarded to manager).

The confirmation and receipt for HP Australia do not list detailed specifications. It just has your model number. I did call up to verify the specification prior to delivery and it was 100GB. Now, HP Asia-Pacific agrees its 100GB, but HP Support (India) says its 80GB.

I'm just surprised that HP seems so "out of reach". It's like every call you make is long distance.

I'm waiting for Monday to come. This is extremely frustrating because it's the 3rd time I've ran into problems with my new purchases in less than 2 months. I hate dealing with customer reps because they take forever to get something done.
Yeah, I have a sad life.
