I was looking at the HP xb3000 for my Dv7t but now I see that the xb3000 is gone from the website and there is an xb4 instead.....They look pretty identical but the new one states it works with the DV7 series whereas I am not sure if the xb3000 will. However they raised the price on the new one to $250 and I can find an xb3000 on Ebay for less than $100....So does anyone know what the real difference is or if the older version will work with my DV7t??

Thanks....I wasnt sure if I should put this here or the accessories section but since it is HP specific I thought I'd throw it in here.

Usually if they released a new part, that means the design changed. The last two times it changed the new docks did not work with the old PCs.

I'd assume you need a xb4 for it to work.

    Interesting...

If you can find the xb4 and/or xb3000 in a store, try it yourself. Or find some user stories that it works.

I not sure, but I think the older Docking Station (xb3000) and Quickdock both have component video jacks and the newer Docking Station (xb4) and Quickdock do not have any video jacks except for VGA.

I think the newest thing they did with the xb4 is to allow usb charging when the notebook is off, and to connect a second notebook via USB and share devices.

I bought the xb4 today and ran into a critical problem. I get an error message that the USB ports are not working. I tried plugging in my mouse to the xb4's USB port, and sure enough, there's no connection.

I rebooted my dv2000 a couple of times, but that hasn't helped. I called HP and spoke to an agent for over an hour, but he couldn't figure out the problem. Has anyone figured out this issue?

Ironically, I had bought a xb3000 a couple of days ago, which worked fine, but exchanged it for the xb4 when I found out that this came out. I found another forum where someone posted having the same exact issue. I would be wary of buying the xb4 until there is news that this has been resolved.

During the July 4th Sale they drop the price of the xb3000 down to 199.99 from 249.99 and the xb2000 from 199.99 to 149.99 to flush it out of stock. It was without a doubt they will price the xb4 at 249.99. They added a sub woofer on the xb4 and remove the 90w AC adapter.

I'm currently looking for an xb4 nwperformance.
If you've got one, put it up on eBay and I'll buy it off you for $230 + Shipping to Australia.

I am trying to buy a xb3000 and the person I spoke to says that it has service connector 3, which seems to be the same one on my dv4 laptop. Can anyone tell me? I want to buy this asap. I am excited.

Yes the XB3000 has a PCI expansion port 3. According to HP's web site, the DV4 also uses the expansion port 3, so this should work for you.

Thanks! I got the xb3000. My only problem now is that it does not come with a power plug, and according to the website, I am supposed to use the plug from my laptop, however HP changed the plug for my dv4t laptop, because my plug is large and the one on the back of the expansion base is small. The person who I bought the exansion base from, their laptop had the correct power plug for the XB3000.

How do I find what power supply I will need for it?

Hummm... Is this confirmed by others as well? I have the XB3000, and my dv4 laptop uses the smart pin connector. I was planning to go ahead and purchase the power adapter for it, since my connector is different. You are saying that it would work, but it will not charge the laptop through the connector? Does all the ports on the xb3000 work without power to it directly? Currently, I have my laptop plugged in normally to the wall, and I have the XB3000 cable plugged into the side of my laptop. the only things I have verified working on the XB3000 is the video output and the microphone out. The things like volume buttons and speakers are not working.

Should I still go ahead and purchase a power adapter for it? It seem like I might be able to get one for around $10 on ebay.

I'm have some things to wonder also, I have an xb3000 base and a laptop (specs are in sig area), well I want to buy a newer hp laptop for my wife. I would love it to be able to connect to the base. Would this be possible with the new laptos, will the base be fully compatible with the new laptops?

I have a new laptop (dv4). So far, without a power cord (because mine uses a different power), the monitor output and the headphone jacks on the base works. When I purcahsed it, the person I got it from used their power plug from their laptop and the speakers worked. I did not test the USB ports, and now I have no power to be able to test them. I will let you know when I get my power adapter for it.

You don't have to have power hooked up to test the docking station. You just won't have you laptop charging up from the docking station.

Humm... well, my usb ports are not working, and my speakers are not working. Should these work? I bought it from someone used, and I forgot to check the USB ports.

I'm using an XB3000 with my HP HDX18t. My experience below:

    1) Works fine in all respects; as previously noted an older style power supply is required, because the XB3000 has a power connector like the older DV6000/DV9000 series laptops.

    2) HDX18t charges fine when the dock is powered.

    3) USB ports on the dock require the dock to be powered.
