I have constantly had problems with my HP DV2416US overheating. I called HP last week and was told to send in my notebook. It was repaired and I received it earlier today. According to the follow up sheet, both the heat sink and the motherboard were replaced. After about one hour of use, my notebook completely shut off. Now, it will not turn on at all(with battery in/out, ac adapter plugged in). The blue light indicating the ac adapter will light up but that is it. I called HP and they said to resend the notebook. What do you think happened? Is the new motherboard fried? There were no warning symptoms whatsoever... Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

It looks like your laptop is part of HP's Epic FUBAR Program:

I just got off the phone with HP and the representative said that HP would reimburse me for a new laptop if the motherboard is found to be defective...again... Ughhh

On the bright side, they are willing to replace it altogether... I personally owned a dv6424ca that had to be repaired 4 times before the technicians understood that the model was inherently broken.

Okay, I removed the RAM cover on my notebook, thinking that maybe the RAM was loose, and here is what I found (attached image). Is that bend in the metal normal? I also attached a picture of a crack that I found in my notebook case.

It is difficult to tell from the photo whether the SODIMM slot itself is damaged, however it is clear that the metal sheet that is under the black plastic is damaged. If that slot (and only that slot) is indeed damaged, you should still be able to remove the RAM module and run on only one stick of RAM. As a result, I still think that the problem is part of HP's warranty "enhancement".
