its not a gigantic problem, its just that whenever i plug my headphones into my laptop, i heard this beeping sound. its not very loud, and it occurs about every 20 seconds. i cant even hear it without the headphones. is this a hardware problem?

Try unplugging and taking out the battery, then holding down the power button for 10 seconds, then 20 if it don't work the first time. Then see if you can match the beeps to anything on this beep code website. If that ain't getting anywhere try updating your bios and your quicktouch drivers.

eh, where can i update my BIOS and quicktouch drivers?
oh and by the way, my comp seems to give out quite alot of heat as the metal conducts heat well. is this a significant problem with any dv5 owners?
