so my laptop situation is pretty ghetto. i got an hp pavilion dv5-1235dx because it's previous owner broke the screen. i hooked it up to a new flat screen through HDMI and it worked great for like 2 or three weeks. problem is i rarely shut it down. other problem could be that i messed with screen settings one night and set the resolution larger and changed the TV to the primary screen. that morning when i went to turn it on it was not showing up on the TV. i think i either fried the video card or it was the settings. so what should i do? i was thinking i'd buy a new screen and see if it tells me anything but my dad suggests i get a new video card. if a video card. which should i go with. PLZ help!!

There is no "video card." The GPU is soldered to the motherboard which means you would have to replace the entire motherboard.

However, press FN+f4 to cycle through screen display modes. It will cycle through LCD and external monitor.
