My Hp Dv5t's quickplay button and shutdown button both start up the computer and take me to the GRUB menu ( i have ubuntu and vista ) Is this normal/is this damaging the computer in any way? Thanks.

Yes, thats normal and wont harm your computer. Essentially, the Quickplay button, if you just had Vista on there would boot into it and launch quickplay. But, since you are dual bootinr, it just takes you to the grub menu.
