I was watching a movie and began messing with the finger-touch feature for turning up and down the volume as well as muting things.

I have no idea what I did but the dumb thing will not stop turning up and down the volume despite the fact that I stopped touching it.

The semi see-through volume is appearing and when I click the volume icon on the lower right hand side of the screen, I can watch the little toggle go up and down while also listening to the infernal clicking.

    Muting still works.

Is there anything that I might be able to do to stop this?

    I've tried re-starting but it doesn't work.

    I'm running Vista 32-bit.

I'd try disabling the audio device by right clicking on the speaker icon then selecting playback device and enabling another device as my first course of action, then try a system restore. If there was no joy there I’d reinstall the audio drivers and if all else fails I’d get the screw driver out and disconnect the speakers because it seems as if you have a command executing in a loop.

Try pressing the stop button. That usually stops the sporadic volume bug.

QuickTouch has issues...that's why I stick with the QuickLaunch software...I've never had volume bar issues at all with QuickLaunch...however, this doesn't have the onscreen volume indicator which I don't care for anyway...
