After two days with this machine, I am sick of all the HP bloatware. I also used the windows migration tool...and that was a mistake.

I am pretty savvy, but have 2 kids taxing my brain and I can't seem to find instructions on how to do a fresh install of windows 7 on this (or similar ) machine.

    1. maybe a very stupid question, but how do you get a copy of win 7 to install? I mean these things don't come with CDs anymore?

    2. Is it easier to just uninstall all the bloat? What is safe to get rid of? Does win 7 do a decent job of cleaning up the registry?

I know these must be answered someplace, so if someone could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

I found this link to various drivers in another thread. That should cover most of your bases for a clean install. As for Windows, I think it's up to the end user to secure their own copy for clean installs.

The bloatware doesn't bother me much at all. They were all relatively easy to remove. All I took out were Office, Norton and the WildTangent-supported games. I still have all of HPs programs installed on my system, though they're all currently disabled just in case I need them later on.

edit: Here's another link I found to download various versions of Windows.

I think if you made the recover CD's (for safety you should) then there are ways to do a clean install from them.
