By the way, what is a good price to buy one of these used? I'm on a tight budget but would like to grab a 14.

Check under the battery, if yours is a custom model it's either the 1000, 1100, or 1200 series. It doesn't matter what series it is if you're just downloading drivers, though.

HP ENVY 14t-1000 CTO Notebook PC (VX756AV)

This was pretty much the model of the first run Envys custom-to-order with the Radiance screen. Mine has a bit later product number (VX778AV) but is the same model.

*watches his batter only last like 2 hours and 36 minutes before the 10% warning happens*

...man haven't noticed the wear go down at all either...

Open up your laptop and look at the physical battery. Is there a bulge?
Perhaps a cell could have failed without the software sensing it.

Conversely, it could be software in the background consuming your CPU power.

EDIT: If your on F.23, HP has cunningly hidden the wear % from the user.
To find out the real wear %:

    (59200-(Your mWh figure)/59200) *100 = real wear %

    yeah.

    I noticed that but. oh.

    oh

F.23 just makes the wear = the designed wear doesn't it. No wonder.

I was at 3% awhile ago. Now I'm at 7.5%

edit: anyway, that still shouldn't take into account an hour or half hour or whatever drop. Probably something dumb going on somewhere even though I don't see much cpu wear. I mean, it could be MSE it's been acting up sometimes/gotten more vigilant and scans anytime you do anything forever.

Also I decided to just buy a new battery since they're $50 right now thanks to the 50% off accessories thing and some $15 coupon.

very interesting. i am at 10.5% wear. can you guys please give me tips to talk to HP to get a new battery, their BS customer service shot me down several times in the spring, telling me stuff about battery life testing that is just nonsense. i bought the computer in feb 2011.

Hmm, my wear is around 0.3%. Not bad, I usually use this connected to AC, discharging maybe 50% every week or so.

As for your 10% wear, have you tried to completely discharge the battery and recharge it? It may need internal recalibration.

Edit: but the second I unplug the reported capacity drops to 56,980mWh/59,008mWh so I suppose the actual wear is closer to 3.75%

I can recommend Process Hacker to monitor this Overview - Process Hacker , sorted by "Kernel CPU Time". This can give you an idea of what software/services is using most of the CPU cycles.

oddly enough I didn't see the envy 14 slice on the HP laptop battery list.

    soooooooo.

still the coupon was 15SAVEHP or SAVE15HP or HPSAVE15. It takes $15 more off of the discount.

    something like that.

it works on orders of $75+ and works with the the 50% discount on all accessories that's going on right now (or was going on yesterday at least)

...hell I didn't notice the second page.

anyway it seems the discount is up to 50% not 50% for everything.

..so. Slice is only 10% off. You can use TECHBARG30 to get $30 off since the slice costs over $150. So after tax and stuff slice is $160 instead of $199

    oh well.

Quick Question - does the Envy 14 have the Intel HD 2000 or 3000? I am guessing the 2000, but just trying to make sure.

    Hey guys, I've got an Envy 14 (i5-480m, Radiance, Radeon 5650, 4gb ram and a 500gb HD).

When powered off, I've noticed that my battery has been consistently draining itself about 8-10% over the course of about 5 days. Is this normal behavior for a laptop battery?

I mainly use my desktop, and rarely even touch my Envy, so it just seems odd that it would be draining when it's off.

It's running windows 7, and yes, I do shut down and not 'hibernate' or 'sleep' or any of that. It's just annoying to have the battery fully charged and ready for use, but only 90% when I go to use it.

Normal battery life according to battery bar, is about 3.5 hours, so it sounds like a normal battery except for the weird draining problem.

Forgive the noob question, and thanks !

Hmm i've got the dongle for my wireless Logitech mouse connected. I'll check that out and report back.

Can anyone else confirm their batteries are draining at about this rate (8-10% / 5 days) ?

The batteries really shouldn't drain that fast without load. Have you tried to pull the battery out and then put it back in a few days later and checking out the capacity?

Also, the USB ports are not powered when the computer is off and on battery.

I just bought an i5 envy 14 beats with 650gb HDD/brightview display/4gb ram/no battery slice on craigslist for $600. The guy says he bought it 2 months ago and that it still has 10mo warranty left but I doubt it, bc it's a 1st gen.
Anyway, do you think it was worth the $? Is Reil's envyTouchpad.exe the most up to date config for the trackpad? What other essential updates should I look for outside of hp's drivers? Does anyone know of somewhere I can get a cheap battery slice? Thanks in advance

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-drivers-switchable-graphics-11-4-11-5-a.html

    grab them from here.

My computer requires me to install 11.2 first so I can jump from the older catalyst control center for the 10.x drivers to the 11.x drivers without windows blue screening.

then I can install 11.8 or whatever and things work fine. Your computer may or may not act like mine. Think it's just because I have a cto-1000 envy 14 or something. (Not sure, never noticed other people have to install 11.2 before going to 11.higher than 2)

So I just upgraded my RAM thanks to a nice newegg sale to 8GB from 4 and i noticed in CPU-Z that with both the old stock RAM and the new sticks it has my DDR3-1333 running at 532 Mhz instead of the full 667 Mhz the memory is rated for. Anyone know if it's supposed to be downclocking the RAM or if you can bring it back up to speed? The system is spec'd for the 1333...

    it is specced for 1333.

i3 and i5 processors cannot make use of the full 1333 mhz. They can only use up to 1066.

the i7 can. So that's why the motherboard will let you use 1333 ram 'cause there was an option to get an i7.

    sandybridge i3/i5 can use 1333 I think.

coupons are found by using google since they change like every week or so.

also slice isn't cheap right now I dun think.

extra normal one is 50% off and the $15 off coupon worked on it (hello $50 battery)

anyway TECHBARG30 shoudl work on the slice if it costs over $150 before discounts. expires on the 30th of october

SAVE15HP will work on the normal battery. it expires in 20 days.

Posting here since I cant find the Paradise lost questions thread.
I want to set a couple keys on the keyboard to do special actions, and I was wondering if it was possible with 3rd party programs. I want "pg up" to be used as a "next" button when playing music, "pg dn" to be used as a "previous" button, "End" to be used as a pause button, and the um... display out button? The one to the left of the keyboard light... to be used as a "turn off monitor" button. Is any of this possible? Id also like to make "pause" and "insert" more useful too, but I dunno with what...

People of the internet - i need your help. Without thinking i purchased a radiance screen from France to replace my brightview screen here in the UK for my Envy14. Now i only bought the screen not the housing so im in need of either the housing or the correct connector replacements in order to make this work. Will post picss if/when successfull.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated - many thanks,

    Nathan.

See if this page helps you find any parts. You can plug in your own part/serial number and location. There's some kind of user guide on how to use the page.

    HP PartSurfer

Also, recall from pages back in this forum some folks made the screen switch and it worked for them. You can try and search out their posts or maybe some of them will volunteer information that can help you. These are the part/serial numbers for my Envy 14 from the orginal Radiance Screen models. Yours may be different.

Well, after much more research, maybe no one did have any success making the switch. Seems there is some wiring incompatibility. Not sure if the cable kit on the PartSurfer page would be for Radiance or BV but since it is the part list for my model of Envy with the Radiance screen, not sure why it wouldn't work.

None of the cable kits will work, the screen is designed to not be disassembled and thus comes with a cable.

It's proprietary. Very, very hard to manufacture in small quantities and hand assembling it would not work because the cable is just so tiny. Take a look at it yourself, it's very complex.

I am in the market for a new AC adapter/charger, What is a good thin/slim/small 90w ac adapter? I see the targus makes one but I have seen reviews on here that say it's flimsy/cheap.
HP makes one, but it has 2 cords. I would like 1 cord. Where the actual brick plugs in the wall.

Is this too much to ask? I hate huge brick ac adapters.
    Thanks.

    Edit:
HP has this one which has 2 cables, one from the wall to the brick, and another from the brick to your laptop:
    http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/computer/categories/ac_adapters/1/accessories/BT798AA%23ABA
and they also have this one:
    http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/computer/categories/ac_adapters/1/accessories/LZ837AA%23ABC

The question is, in the second link, does the brick actually go into the wall outlet itself and it only haveing 1 cable from the brick to the laptop? Or does it need both cables (from the wall outlet to the brick, and then from the brick to the laptop?)

    Sorry, I am just confused.

looks like they just made a mockup of the first brick and added a usb port (since they don't have any other pictures)

so...yeah it's the first brick with a usb port added onto it most likely so you can power a usb device if you want for whatever reason.

There are some connectors that go from the C5 connector to the AC plug, I have a dell one that goes from the C1 connector (no ground pin) directly to inlet.

edit: to clarify, this means you could get this adapter and just use your normal 90 watt non-slim adapter and plug it into the wall. without a cable.
