    papadetito,

    Thanks for the info.
Does new trackpad let you rest a finger on a mouse button, and still work properly if tap to click is turned on?

I have a 1st gen envy 14 that I bought a few weeks ago and it allows me to leave one finger on the mouse button while scrolling with tap click enabled. I do it quite frequently when playing games. It wont do any of the 4 finger gestures though.

The reason I asked was I just picked up a Toshiba E305, and the trackpad is not very good to say the least.
The 2 finger scrolling is terrible, and if you turn tap to click on... well, it makes the whole interface pretty much useless.
Needless to say the Toshiba is going back.

Sounds like the new touchpad in the HP may be decent. Thanks again for the info.

wow. sounds like the new trackpad has the beta drivers that allow click anywhere on the original envy 14 in a finalized awesome version.

    cool.

I didn't ever find out, is the refresh 1366x768 or does it have a 1600x900 option?

If the specs aren't any better 1366x768 and a better video card. Is there another laptop with same class industrial laptop and 14 inch form factor? I am willing to possibly pay up to $2000.

Certainly not. I hardly game at all anymore. I reviewed them for my website but now I just have a bunch laying around.

Nah. Those guys are purely interested in sound quality without considering other aspects of a headset. I used to post on the MLG and GameBattles forums, but those organizations are kind of corrupt and I just don't have the time to game anymore.

No, there is no eSATA. It's been replaced with a USB 3.0 port.

Can you also say the speeds the 6630M is clocked at?
    Core and memory. Thanks

Quite interested IF they would offer a 1600x900 screen option.

I talked to an HP rep today. She said she 'hadn't received any information' about a new Envy 14 coming out tomorrow, but she said there was a new Envy 14 with a 3D screen coming out on July 7th. All I can say is.. let's not get our hopes up for tomorrow :/

^ wow. 3D is pretty impressive. Personally, I have no use for it.

Hey!! If HP can find a 3D manufacturer for 14'' displays how come they can't find a 900p or 1080p screen manufacturer!!?!? I don't even think there are currently any 14'' 3D screens on the market!

If ts 3d I'd assume the screen would be higher resoution. Especially because it will need to be 120hz. Although if this is true I'd also assume there would be a better graphics card t handle the extra load. I'm pretty skeptical about this claim. HP isn't one to release things like this without a lot of hype and press coverage.

So how hard is this "refresh" sucking right about now. I knew HP was going to drop the ball on this. They're gonna throw all their weight behind tablets and webOS until they realize they can't compete with apple and samsung... The futures gonna be iOS, honeycomb, and windows 8. They're just too ingrained at this point for anything else to succeed.

    yep

    $1099 for quadcore sandy bridge
The only thing that is changed is the extended battery that went a bit cheaper.
Very poor refresh: Quadcore not included in base model, no SSD options, very low res screen with no options, 6630M, etc.

    No beats version (?)

Yup, officially up on hp.com and this refresh officially sucks.

    ~No true HD screen option
    ~6630 Graphics :/
    ~No SSD option

I'll be soon placing an order for an overpriced Macbook... very disapointing, btu at least I get $100 app store giftcard for waiting months to see what the Envy 14 refresh would bring.... disappointment.

/underwhelmed I would have bought it if it had a higher res screen OR a better GPU (preferably both of course). Dvt6 is better than it in pretty much every way except backlit keyboard and build quality (but the dvt is pretty good build imo)

Don't know why they waited this long for such a EXTREME poor refresh?
Except from design and battery, the DV serie PWNS almost every aspect of the envy14..
The screen resolution is unforgivable, 1366x768 shouldn't even be mainstraim.
Phones will get 720p screens next year... (4" <-> 14")

Guess I wait till 22nm Ivy and 28nm GPUs...

I wouldn't trade my first gen Core i3 / Radiance and 750GB WD Black for the quad core 2nd gen........ think ill eBay mine and get a hideous m14x when i decide i need the extra graphics power....if it wasn't for lack of backlit keyboard i would for for a dv6 next time.

In my opinion the Envy is still a nice laptop but lack of a higher res screen option is completely rediculous.

=_= So the dv6t and lenovo y570 poop on the envy 14... very disappointing... I really hate how every one of these machines has one major flaw... When are these guys gunna make one that does it right! dv6t: no back lit keyboard. Envy: bad screen/gpu. y570: amazing everythign EXCEPT screen just as bad as envy =_= Anybody know of the secret 14"-15" laptop that has a sick screen/gpu that doesn't cost a fortune?

Beats edition is available on Amazon and jr.com and probably some other websites by now.
I don't think quad core was ever included on the base model. They just sold out of the base models so the only thing that was left were the quad core models.
    Here's your SSD.

I'm thoroughly disappointed with HP. I was hoping that the envy 14 will be a worthy replacement for my dv6t, but now it looks like all HP'll get for me is an RMA.

Wow just saw the new AMD dv6 which does crossfire between it's two GPUs. That thing would completely demolish the E14 in gaming and after the current coupon its $700 with a 1080p screen I believe. Damn HP messed this up, I wonder why they are holding the Beats until the 7th. Crossing my fingers for some crazy surprise, or I might just go with the dv6.

Damn just built one out to near maximum specs for $820 some of the things it has
-crossfire between 6620 and 6750(6770?) = gaming domination
-fastest AMD processor (CPU-wise it is only as good as the SB i5)
    -1080p antiglare screen
-still not as sexy as the envy :'(

How much does the new Envy 14 weigh?? I checked on HP's website and they give 3 contradicting numbers!!! The number on the picture says 5.2 lb. The description says 5.53 lb and the spec sheet says 5.69 lb. What the heck HP!?!?

It's official - the new Envy 14 is a complete failure as a so-called "premium" laptop. I'd been crossing my fingers for HP's sake ever since the original press release mentioned Brightview, but they really dinked it up in the end. It's a real shame, too - the first generation was a really impressive machine for the price tag, at least until they ran out of Radiance screens, but now all the Envy 14 offers is looks - everything else it does is done much better by much-cheaper laptops.

Lol. I've been following the SB ENVY 14 update since January, and I have to say, HP really needs to get their **** together. Their websites are always incomplete or have incorrect information. Release dates are given and then not followed through, and their premium line takes backseat hardware wise to cheap laptops. That doesn't surprise me one bit. Don't know why anyone would buy a SB Envy 14 at this point besides for the looks.

The new Envy 14 is inferior to what it should be as a "premium" laptop. At this size, a well-designed Envy 14 could be a unique machine. Many of us hoped that HP would push the envelope on what you can get in a laptop of this size and build quality for a reasonable price. Instead, it's basically a prettied-up low-to-mid range 14-incher at a mid-to-high range price. Yes, there are other options, but the Envy 14, designed right, could have been the best among them.

The first-generation Envy 14 with the Radiance screen required a bit of apologetics to be considered a best-in-class laptop, but this one requires similar apologetics just to justify it as a purchasable computer.

at this point the envy 14 is pretty disappointing, but you never know with HP. The dv6 was out for a short while without some of the premium upgrades it has now. I guess when the beats edition comes out we will see if they had anything up their sleeves.
