Just ordered a Beats Edition from HP.

Students can purchase online with the XBOX 360 deal here.

My only upgrade from was the 878GB Dual Drive (128GB mSATA SSD + 750GB 7200RPM HDD).

HP indicated it would be built on August 12th.

    Hi everyone,

I just got the Beats Edition version, and I know they are doing this whole "dynamic" switchable graphics thing, which so far sucks in my opinion. I am trying to run 3DMark 11, I went ahead and did the option to use the "high performance gpu" for 3Dmark11.exe

Now when I run 3dmark11, it still uses the Intel HD igp, not the ATI 6630m.

Even turned coolsense off, set high performance battery setting. Anyone have any idea how to get switchable graphics to work?

Until they release the BIOS update, there's nothing more you can do. Did you switch it to High Performance while 3DMark was running?

Wow, so I know I'm late to the party, but I just now got around to using Reil's touchpad thing. Wow. Just wow. Why did it take me so long to do it? I will never go back.

Use automagical's settings. They work for me. I also set the disable touchpad while typing down to about 250ms.

It's nice to hear that others are having success with Reil's drivers :D
PS: The "settings" screenshot was meant for 1st gen Envies, whose touchpads were less responsive. You might want to try reducing the speed a bit.

If anyone who owns an SB envy reads this, please just try it out. It's a standalone .exe, so if you don't like what you see then delete it. The difference is amazing, you won't want to go back, guaranteed. Just remember to disable two finger scrolling in Synaptics' utility, I know it sounds crazy, but that's what makes the difference.

Again thanks to Reil for the great program and also to eafd for the original guide :)

The only thing holding me back from trying Reil's is if I disable two finger scolling with Synaptics does that mean I lose that function for good on Reil's program? I actually don't have too much complaint with the default settings with synaptics and the scrolling but if the difference is night and day then I might have to give it a try...

edit: what I really want to know is do I lose anything for switching to Reil's?

Reil's app is not a driver but an application that works on top of Synaptic's own helper. It has no installer, so, you can run it and delete it if you don't like how it works. The only thing you must care is to disable or tweak Synaptic's own gestures to ensure they not interfere with Reil's algorithms.

if you use google chrome, and you have the envy 14 second generation, you can get an extesion for google chrome called "Chromium Wheel Smooth Scroller", you can configurate it, and google chrome will feel like a mac, but only in the google chrome, and check out my video of the touchpad improvement : ‪HP Envy 14 Sandy Bridge touchpad improvement‬‏ - YouTube

No you will not lose any functionality. The reason that we are disabling scrolling in Synaptics' settings is because the two programs sense the same input, but Reil's translates that into a much smoother scroll with advanced customization. When both programs are active, their outputs are mixed and the choppy Synaptics scroll is what you will see. Th

You will not lose any functionality over stock. The reason that we are disabling Synaptics' scroll is because when it and Reil's program are active, both sense the same input but interpret it very differently. Unless you deactivate the Synaptics scroll, the two will be mixed and you will still have a choppy scroll.
    Try it out ;)

Ohhh okay well then that's great! Thanks for clearing things up for me. Since this is an application does that mean I have to open this program up every time I start my laptop then?

Edit: Nevermind I see an option in the settings to have it start up with windows. Excuse my ignorance.

Just got my replacement with the SSD + HDD combo.

No recovery partition at all... they're mailing me recovery disks for free. That's nice. swsetup is on the SSD though... no issue moving it to the HDD.

To answer dileno's earlier question, no special Intel deal that I can see is going on. SSD is C: with Windows on it with about 35GB free on it. HPTOOLS is on there too but no big deal since it is only like 100MB.

@squall_234: Not sure what trim means, I'll check if you tell me what it is and how to check.

So they're giving me a real hard time with this XBox deal... to recap, I bought my original Envy 14 SB and got the free XBox 360... my original order was delayed, so they emailed me the 15% coupon but refused to do anything else because of this crappy XBox deal. The way that works is they include the XBox on your order for $199 but discount the laptop for $199. THIS MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM TO DO ANYTHING ELSE TO YOUR LAPTOP. I had a hardware issue and they decided to replace my laptop. However, they would not give me an upgrade or credit me any money because of the XBox promotion. However, I simply purchased a new one with my 15% delay coupon (and got the 580GB combo drive in the process) and they extended my return window to more than 21 days, so in effect I'm getting the new laptop and returning the defective one.

I called a couple hours ago to begin the return process and they will only refund me the cost of the laptop... remember, with the idiot XBox coupon, that means that instead of refunding me $980 for the cost of the order, they'll only refund me $750 (minus the taxes, etc.). I fought with them on the phone for over an hour and in the end, somebody from Resolutions is putting in a request with HP in Cali to refund me $200 from my new purchase to call it even. I will have a conniption if they call me back tomorrow and won't do it. Just a head's up, I'll say it again, unless you're dying for a free 4GB XBox 360, DO NOT DO THIS IDIOT DEAL! If you have any problems, the XBox coupon will make it impossible to fix anything.

Meh. Start the process. Juice them.

Like I said, last week the tech support guy told me that they should be fixing that problem when they release the new BIOS, but I feel like he might have been guessing. Hope he was right though. Still can't click that damn check box off.

If you go to the support forum at hp.com there is a sticky by one of the admins announcing the BIOS update for the dv6. The post also states that an update for the Envy is coming.

I just want to verify: Is it fixed with your new laptop? If fullscreen is still messed up on your new lappy, then its probably software. If it does work now, then I'll swap. Sorry to pester, just want to be sure of the facts before I start. Thanks again!

No it's not fixed. The problem is still there. I was just saying to call them. They told me it was a hardware issue and that's how I got my replacement. Clearly, it's not a hardware issue (though I had a power supply problem anyway).

Hey guys, I've been reading the forums awhile and could someone kindly explain to me how to get my envy 14 to switch from integrated graphics to the AMD? I'm on the Sandy Bridge 2020nr. I right clicked the desktop and hit the "configure switchable graphics" button but that takes me to the "recent applications" and "other applications" section on the AMD CCC. But I tried playing Arkham Asylum and 1024 resolution and it still lagged a bit then I ran GPU Caps viewer to see which graphics the computer was using and it was displaying the Intel instead of the AMD. I've set the game to high performance in the CCC and everything but no go. It runs, it just lags even on low settings, that can't be right can it? Can any of you guys run Batman: AA well? Is there any easy way of telling the system to just switch to the AMD card? How do I get to the BIOS?

On this picture, is there supposed to be 2nd option as opposed to just the Number one option showing the Intel display?

it also doesnt ask me to shut off applications and the screen doesnt blink when i change applications from power saving to high performance, so it seems like the amd card just isn't registering or something.

    thanks :D

Wassup! I posted what I did a few pages back. Check that out. I don't think your method is the correct way.

The screen doesn't blink. That is sooo 2009. You know that you're on high performance when your fans ramp up.

If you just run the game, quit it and it should appear under recent applications. Select high performance by clicking on the assign button. Then it should use the AMD card.

The picture is fine. I get the same options too.

I had to call and tell them. I told them that when I tried to create the recovery disks it said the partition wasn't there, and the person I spoke to said ok she'll send them out to me free of charge. They already shipped, and estimated delivery date is Tuesday.

It's Intel... it doesn't say 310 series anywhere, but I think that's the only 80GB mSATA drive they make. Intel SSDMAEMC080G2H in Device Manager.

As far as where the slot is, I'm not sure, I haven't opened my laptop yet. I'll check later for you.

I think it must be universal. During the installation process it had a step called detecting hardware.

I don't have a problem with fan noise... I mean, I can hear it, and sometimes more than others, but it doesn't bother me at all. Not sure if 2nd gen is less than 1st or if I just don't care as much about fan noise as others.
