Hey Willy,
Thanks for the update. It's annoying that the HP update tool doesn't automatically pick this bios download. If you hadn't posted this, it might have been another couple weeks before I started searching HP's site.
So, I updated the bios, disabled dynamic switching, and the full-screen video artifact problem is now resolved. Whoot!
Thanks for being an active participant in the thread!

No problemo!!!

Does anyone know if any mSATA SSD will work in this notebook, or is this like the WLAN card where only HP-approved devices are allowed? This will definitely help sway my decision as far as keeping the Envy 14 I just received or returning it for something else.
-
Ooh... that sounds... problematic...
It *might* be resolved by updating BIOS (after draining the laptop to get that charging indicator to go away), but I couldn't guarantee that. It might just be a hardware issue. Man, I hope I don't run into any crap like this when I get mine...
I don't believe it's a common thing to whitelist mSATA devices. It doesn't seem impossible, just somewhat unlikely. -
If you have read the service manual, it states an additional add-on mSATA converter card is required for mounting a mSATA SSD. So you need to purchase one first.
Solid-state drive connector board (includes cable):
For use only with computer models equipped with an mSATA solid-state drive

For use only with computer models not equipped with an mSATA solid-state drive 661706-001

I just realized that the dual mSSD and HDD configuration is missing.
Is the configuration give a lot of boost the laptop?
Since it's not available anymore and I haven't got to purchase it, am I missing much if I just go with a Seagate Momentus XT instead? -
Realizing that HP is selling off its PC business, does this mean that the two-year warranty won't really be two years?
-
Is the HP Envy 14 color more silver or brown? I haven't seen the new one in person yet.
-
Of course it will be. Officially, they publicly announced their intent to explore several options regarding their PC business. These options include selling it off, spinning it off as an independent company, or keeping it. Think IBM and Lenovo. They are not yet selling their PC business.
It is ok to keep buying HP PCs and your PC will be supported one way or another. Don't worry about it. -

It's both. Most of the body is silver, but the top of the lid is brown-ish. I prefer the look of the standard version to the Beats Edition. I dislike the Beats' big red logo in the middle of the lid, and I also prefer the standard version's white keyboard backlighting.
Exactly. HP (or whoever might acquire their business) would be required to honor all warranties, so current and potential buyers will not have anything to worry about. -
I hope it's not Samsung. HP's been typically selling PCs at below margins. Under different circumstances, Samsung would be better off avoiding a loss-leading business and aiming for building its own Ultrabook or the like with a good GPU.
-
I wouldn't see Samsung doing it. In terms of PC penetration in the US market, I see them as being much like Hyundai... as recent as 10 years ago, they were a joke, and now they sell high-quality cars at great prices. Samsung's just about there too with their PCs after only entering the mainstream American market relatively recently.
Though I'm no business expert, if HP were to sell its PC business off, I think it'd be somebody who isn't already a major PC maker. A big technology company with dough that either doesn't have a major PC business already or a small one. I also think that it would not likely be an American company. In the HP sells it scenario, I think it'd be very similar to how Lenovo/IBM worked out.
Best-case for American consumers would likely be spinning it off in my opinion. Keep the same brand and resources but ditch bureaucracy and bloated corporate visions. -
so i got 6GB of original RAM. and I want to upgrade it to 8GB by replacing one of the 2GB to 4GB. What brand does the 2xxx originally come with? And what kind of RAM do i have to get?
-
There are two types of 4GB RAM used in the 2000 series AFAIK- Micron and Samsung. Check your own RAM and source for the same brand.
-
Which one? And where can I buy it?
-
Does anyone know how to make those click-zones where the bottom buttons are not touch sensitive? I want to make standard "dedicated" buttons.
I checked the synaptics settings. Couldn't find them... -
bumping this.
and i was wondering if I can add the mSATA SSD by myself?
the slot is already there right? or what?
thx -
I wondered the same thing. All you have to do is go into the "SmartSense" menu under Pointing. There you will find "Advanced Filters," where you must set the parameters for pointing input. Make sure Restrict pointing to zone is enabled, and drag the green grid to exclude the bottom area of the touchpad. To test it, simply put your finger on the integrated buttons. If the square turns solid green, then the pad is still detecting input and you need to increase the lower margin.
Sorry if that was a bit unclear, but I'd be happy to explain anything
-
Yeah do that. It worked for me too.
-
Nope.. I also hoped.. msata connector is absent..
HP Envy 14 and msata ssd connector.. I'm disappointed.. - HP Support Forum -
Yep seen that thread. Damn im stuck with no SSD.
Ive seen the manual and it can be done but way too complicated. Not to mention void the warranty.
Any idea what an msata connector looks like? -
We should compare the HP motherboard numbers for non-SSD preinstalled units and those with them preinstalled first. If HP did not use the same mainboard, it's likely that some connectors required are not soldered on, or that the SSD board is hardware-locked out from that motherboard.
HP 3385 - non SSD -
Non SSD, the same:
description: Motherboard
product: 3385
vendor: Hewlett-Packard
version: KBC Version 93.11 -
can wetwillycf or anyone who have dual drive help on that one?
thx -
Sorry, I don't know anything that can help. What's the deal with the part from the Service Manual? http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/577022-hp-envy-14-envy-14-beats-sandy-bridge-2xxx-series-owners-lounge-27.html#post7824672 Did anybody try that yet?
-
Download Hwinfo64 from HWiNFO64 Download and look for the motherboard number.
-
Hey guys,
how much would you reckon a envy 14 radiance in immaculate condition boxed will sell for? -
Hello!
Sorry if this have already been asked (thread search didnt work). Does the new envy with i7-2630QM processor come with switchable graphics?
Apparently the old i7 didnt have integrated GPU:

Hello folks,
I bought a HP Envy 2030 eb, I plugged the ac to fully charge the battery before trying to start it (as told in the brief first steps manual).
I'm supposed to wait till the battery's small white light indicator stops flashing.
It's been more than 24 hours and still no change.
Is it normal for a first charge to last that long (and going on)?
Thanks -
Unplug it!!! it's bad for your battery to leave it plugged in when it's not in use. What's happening to you happened to me too. I left the plug in for a few hours, I think it's supposed to be amber during that time, as thats what it does when it's charging. However mine was just white and flashing, so it must be some kind of glitch? When I unplugged and re-plugged the charging cable, it suddenly turned into a solid white.
In the future it shouldn't take nearly that long for a full charge.
I also have a question, I got an Envy 14 Beats edition (sandy bridge) and I love it. But I can swear the keyboard backlight is dimmer now then when I bought it a week ago. Is there someway to adjust it manually? Or is it just me and the Beats edition red keyboard is just always really dim? -
Hello !
I just bought my Envy Beats - 2050SE yesterday ! I love it
!
-
Well, I do know it's bad for the battery to leave for ever a laptop plugged but again it's the first charge (the laptop is 2 days old), haven't tried to launch it yet.
I did unplug/replug a few times, the light stays plain for 2 secondes then goes flashing again. That really bothers me.
Will try to start anyway today to see what happens.
Edit: tried to launch it and it didn't start. Had to plug the adaptater to reach windows, light indicator turned amber ... seems I got a malfuctionning battery. -
I expect to get my Envy 14-2090eo tomorrow... caaaan't waaaait!!
-
You can launch the HP Support Assistant and run a battery test. From there you can also submit the report to HP and contact a support guy via chat to review it.

New ENVY 14-2100 series, no sign of the Intel i7-2670QM yet
HP ENVY 14-2100 Beats Edition Notebook PC series (Data sheet/c02965328.pdf) -
I really want to buy a Envy 14 buy I just don't like the look of the standard one so getting a beats with a quad would be great but I have never seen any, and the beats i5's go for just as much as the standard i7.
(edit: sure there's the old i7-720QM but I meant SDB) -
ah finally a dual drive back in the config. a i7-2620 as well.
any idea when this will be released?
or at least, usually how long is the time frame for these pdf began to show up and the actual thing is updated? -
Hello !
I'd like to know if there is an USB 3.0 port on the HP Envy Beats Edition ? 2050SE ?
I have a Driver for USB 3.0 but all my USBs are black ? Why :s ? -
Your USB3 port is the one on the right side. Black is a design choice.

Hello guys,
I'm really hesitating to buy a probook or an Envy notebook.
I would like to ask you some question before:
1. What about flexing keyboard on 2nd version? (2xxx series)
2. What about SSD? I would like to change my HDD in the future, and put a SSD one... I read it was complicated. I was thiniking the opposite: just a few screws to remove, nothing more... can someone confirm please?
Cheers (i'm not fluent in english, so i beg your pardon if you don't understand) -
The flex is worse on the 2000 series; HP skimped on the quality on the 2000 series. Get a Probook.
mSATA SSD not possible without additional modification. However, for regular 2.5" SSDs, they can be installed easily. -
I'm on my 2nd 2000 series and I've experienced no keyboard flex on either.
-
First post from my brand new HP Envy 14-2090eo, and I'm loving it!
I've had one somewhat annoying experience.. the HP Recovery Media Creation program ended up in an infinite loop upon controlling dvd #1.. that happened on my previous HP laptop too. Had to force the computer off, since it explorer.exe just kept crashing when I tried to get the dvd out. I've contacted HP about it, let's see if I can get those dvd's mailed to me or something, haha
Apart from that, this is one stunning laptop. The keyboard is excellent (no flex btw), the computer is silent and cool.. I am very satisfied with my purchase
-
Cool. I was afraid of the flex keyboard.
Thanks for your answer by the way. -
Same here. I had both 1000 and 2000 series, no keyboard flex.
-
As I mentioned yesterday, HP Recovery Media Creation fails on my brand new Envy 14-2090eo, so I mailed HP Support about it. And they are sending me the recovery kit, so I'm officially not annoyed anymore
Btw, how is the battery life for you guys? I was impressed when I got almost 5 hrs out of my Envy with the i7-2630QM after finishing the first charge.. wow, that is a large improvement from the 1st gen..? -
Similar battery life here

Radiance display are back?
HP Radiance Display Now Available on Envy 14 | Notebook Review | Google Chrome OS Book News & Reviews
Someone on a French forum sent his Envy unit for display problem... 7 weeks later, he had his notebook back, with a radiance display!
Unbelievable! -
That article cites specs on the ENVY 14 which fit the 1xxx series. I'm thinking that's just a new post of an old story. Sorry to burst your bubble!
