By the way, don't you think it's strange that I only get a 5.4 on hard drive with the Envy 14-2014eo specs? Perhaps those are the drivers that need update?

I also ordered recovery disks from HP since I have already deleted the recovery partition, and will try that if the problem persists.

Your hard drive is not aligned properly. All hard disks the ENVY 14 use should score exactly 5.9.

Sorry, I don't want to take it apart while I wait for my replacement. I'd hate to screw something up (I've taken apart stuff a million times, but I'm also clumsy and I know that with my luck I'd lose a screw or scratch something). I'd be shocked if it was any different than the Service Manual though.

    hi
I am new in your forum and I know it is not right place for asking but I did not know where is right place :)
I want to buy new laptop from hp and I find pavilion 6199 very intresting but some problem (heating , bios , etc..) is really bad :(
I think envy is very good but I have a question about graphic
which one has better graphic for 3dmax and game 6199 or envy 2050?
and is any switching problem(graphic) and heating problem like pavilion dv6 in envy 2050?
    thank you

Heating problems are present to some extent, bios is completely locked down.
The DV6 with 6770m has better graphics capability compared to the ENVY 14 with 6630m.

I'm currently having issues with the ENVY 14 which is complex and may never be resolved, sadly.

Having looked at both, I would recommend the DV6 for your usage. :)

Same model from the same place. :) It is really fast; I enjoy it. Glad I got the higher specs than the 2020NR that Amazon also offers.

Hey all, new to the forum! =)

Bought a Envy 14 a few months after the radiance screen ran out...
But there are a few up for sale on ebay, I was wondering if I need to worry about any compatibility and installing issues. I plan on taking it to a professional to do the installing. I just like to know that as long as the radiance monitor is functional that I wont have any problems with the install..

Back again, same problem occurs. I uninstalled both the devices. Rebooted. Installed the HP-supported driver (2011-04-12) for both the Intel and the AMD device (a 300mb file). Rebooted. Same problem. Stupid lagg in movies. I am thinking about throwing the laptop out of the window, literally! Btw, should I try and update the drivers for the hard drive given the low score? How do I find what brand it is?

It could be the HP Coolsense software thats set to ON. You can turn it off but I would recommend leaving it on when watching movies or playing games. Otherwise leave it on automatic. If you don't have the Coolsense, I don't know, that was the case for me.

Incredible how buggy the Envy's are!

I have finally purchased an Envy, and I'm currently trying to install ubuntu. Does anyone know what the HP TOOLS partition is? Somehow HP managed to fill up the disk with 4 partitions already, which means I'm wondering which ones I'm gonna wipe out. Any recommendations?

How to repartition HDD of HP notebook with pre-loaded Window... - HP Support Forum

There are some forums posts that indicate the HP bios update utility uses the partition to safely update the bios since flashing a bios off removable media or within an OS is higher risk. YMMV

Thanks a lot, that's exactly what I was looking for.

On a more general topic, any sucessful installs of Ubuntu 11.04 on Envy's 2nd gen?
It seems to me like most of the hardware works fine out of the box after booting of a live CD, but I didn't check the discrete GPU that seemed to cause trouble on 1st gen Envy's.

In the Device Manager (from Control Panel) you can find the light sensor under the Sensors bit. Should be able to disable it there.

Lol yeah that the same thing I thought. I tried everything, from laptop coolers to undervolting (doesn't work btw :() and it was still loud. Last weekend I had enough and just opened up the envy and unplugged one of the fans. Temps are up about 5-8C, but still in the 40's on average use and 50 flat on media (youtube, flash etc).
Temps don't seem to be an issue, but the noise has been reduced drastically :D.
Another thing I noticed when I opened up the Envy 14 was how tiny the heatsink fins themselves were. The fans are practically just blowing over the heatpipes, or at least that's how it looks. Needs improvement HP :p

Best place would be the HP website. Personally, I've found it hard to find much about it, the only reviews would be there. You might be able to find it on Amazon or MAYBE eBay, but your best bet is the HP website

You would have to go the aftermarket route and replace it yourself, but yes you can

You probably saw one of the lower DV6/7 series in Fry's and not an Envy. The Envy's are silver (except for the black Beats edition). The DV and Envy's share some common characteristics but they are different models and cater to different needs (DV being budget and Envy being premium).

been a few since I got my refresh envy...Anyways things have been awesome with this laptop, and I love it a lot. But with every good relationship comes problems. I game a lot and a lot of the games are pretty mediocre to run, most of the time I play League of Legends and CSS. Now something happened after the last windows update that might have had an effect on my graphics preformence I think. I have been getting a lot of video lag, A LOT OF VIDEO LAG! I cant seem to figure out why. All my video drivers are updated and I have never had any problem with them prior to one week ago. I also have uninstalled (did not completly unstinall all the software, was scared that It would mess up the switchable graphics) but that did not help either.

Any one got any ideas, or fixes to this? would be awesome thank you!

What updates were applied during the said last Windows Update? There was an update for the graphics devices in that, and hopefully you did not install it.

When you say video lag, are you referring to frame rates/display choppiness? Or are you actually referring to videos? Could be two different issues, though I bet you're referring to low frame rates.

My fps is great, im running LoL at like 40-80 fps, and css is over 90, The games have huge chops to them, normally huge spikes like that occur when your around a lot of people (team fights) but these chops just happen even when im just AFK, or spectating someone.

If not gaming, everything is fine, but I would like to mention one thing...Noticed this happens a lot in LoL. If I alt tab between it and say my web browser, once I tab back into LoL, it shades the game. And by shading I mean it dims the lighting, so what once had vivd lighting now is dimed, and looks really dark (shaded)

I think that could possibly your problem. Can you remove that update? If so, I'd remove it, reboot, remove both graphics drivers, reboot, re-install HP driver, reboot.

    Re-install HP original drivers.
    Reboot.

    See if that works.

Hi all. I'm having issues with my bluetooth functionality. Before installing a clean copy of Windows 7, I was able to pair with my smart phone, a Palm Pre Plus. They paired, and I could stream audio between them, share files, etc. But as soon as I installed a clean copy of Windows 7, my Envy and phone would pair, but that's about it. They could no longer stream audio between them or share files; now there is only the most basic functionality. I have brought the issue to HP, and they seem to have exhausted their efforts and are now not responding to me (lovely customer service!). I have HP Wireless Assistant installed, and the bluetooth is set to on. Whenever I try to install the Broadcom bluetooth drivers/profiles listed in the Envy 2XXX, etc. thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...v7-6xxx-envy-14-2xxx-envy-17-2xxx-intel.html), it begins to install but then tells me that there was no bluetooth device detected and that installation must be cancelled. Has anyone here encountered this problem with their smartphone and laptop after doing a clean install of W7?

A shoot in the dark, but you can try disabling power management on the bluetooth device (from device manager, bluetooth preferences, power tab). Then try to reinstall the drivers.

    Well, worth the try :p.
Roaming forums I can see a lot of people having this problem with HP and Dell computers. Some of them claim to solve the problem installing Driver Genius Pro.
Also, posting your problem on answers.microsoft.com worth a try, since MS has a lot of "fix it" scripts to deal with Bluetooth problems.

Wow--I downloaded and installed Driver Genius Pro, and it gave me a list of drivers that needed installing/updating. I selected only the one for bluetooth, and it installed an Intel Centrino Bluetooth driver. It now works as it did before I made a clean installation of Windows 7. This is almost unbelievable considering all the emails I exchanged with HP's support to try to solve the issue. Thanks for that suggestion!

Wow, I'm going to pin this on my memory. Thanks for the feedback.
In my experience, more than a half of the bluetooth problems are due to the inability of the system to install the drivers, because they are compiled inside some install script, and the bluetooth wizard *need* the inf file.
