Just checking in over here. I would like to second lancerevox's request about screen optimization. It is pretty good as of now, but wondering if it can be perfected.
So far loving this machine. It is world's faster than my old centrino duo compaq. I love HP, and the build quality of this one is outstanding. Just did reil's on mine, and loving the clickpad even more now.

Hmmm, over the last few days I've experienced a very strange issue with my SB Envy 14..
The thing is that when I'm running on battery, I can't get online (on wireless) and the error is reported as a failure in standard gateway (DHCP server). No matter how many times I try to repair it, it just won't work. Windows even went as far as saying that the computer is correctly configured, and will continue to try to connect to the DHCP server (DHCP error code 1001). I have also tried the Intel Protools Wireless program, and when I run the diagnostics there, I either get a scan failure or the standard gateway failure.
BUT, and this is where it gets interesting: once the laptop is charging/connected to the power cable, the wireless internet problem disappears. After days of being annoyed and pissed off, I realized that the only times I have internet is when I am connected to the power plug. Last night I took the power cable out for just a minute or two, and the internet connection was lost almost immediately.
Has anyone else experienced this with their Envy? And is there any way to fix it? -
my advice would be to uninstall and reinstall the driver, an updated version if possible. I have not heard of that issue. Hope you can get it figured out

Guys, I think HP is going to kill the HP Envy 14 this coming year.

Thats sad.
I purchased the Envy 14" because other companies don't pay enough attention to their < 15" models: screens are usually awful, no options to upgrade and crappy performance. I remember comparing Dell´s precision 14" vs 15" notebooks, wondering why they behave like a totally different notebook line. No wonder why Apple is stomping with the new Airs.
PD: Inspiron 14z vs 15z, the same history. -
Guys, I have no idea what to buy this coming year for college. I need a laptop like the envy 14 but with ivy bridge. Unfortunately, unless by a miracle HP is building a envy 13 or envy 14 , no other laptop looks good. Don't even get me started about a macbook. The xps 14z? looks really ugly. Lenovos are too expensive. the envy is the perfect price.

First post for me... just recently got my envy beats edition custom config and have one question about adding the mSATA SSD to my laptop.
I read several pages back where the part numbers were listed and the service manual linked about adding the mSATA SSD but I haven't seen it as confirmed possible anywhere, and maybe it hasn't been yet.
I added the two part numbers listed to the cart on the hp parts surfer page and this is what I can see:
654171-001 In stock
SIM CARD BOARD WITH CABLE 83.60
661706-001 In stock
SIM CARD BOARD WITH CABLE WITHOUT MSATA 75.05
I would guess to add the mSATA you need the first one, part # 654171-001. Just wanted to confirm if anybody has done this and that it worked. I didn't see anybody with the mSATA list their mobo part # just people who had the single drive config.
Just looking for some more info that would point to this being a possibility before I spend some money on parts. I'm probably going to order the board part and install it then wait for a good deal on an mSATA drive.
If I missed where this was confirmed I apologize. I read through the last 40 or so pages but I may have missed that information haha.
Thanks in advance!

My Laptop:
Envy 14-2000 CTO Beats Edition
i7-2670QM CPU -
Hope this helped... -
Hey guys, as you can see in my signature, I have an Envy already, loving it by the way, but in the next 60 days or so, I plan on buying the Envy 14-21060se Beats Edition. This Envy will be used for all of my Mobility needs as well as my Backup Laptop, so it won't be used a lot (except initially just to give it the standard initial purchase work out). I figure the prices will be right, after the new line gets released. Here are the specs on the unit I want.
Envy 14-2160SE, eight-cell lithium-ion battery, AC adapter
2.4GHz Intel Core i5-2430M processor, up to 3.0GHz with Turbo Boost
14.5" diagonal HD BrightView Infinity LED-backlit display with 1366x768
6GB DDR3 RAM
80GB SATA solid state drive
750GB 7200 RPM hard drive, HP ProtectSmart hard drive protection
SuperMulti DVD burner
802.11a/g/n WiFi
Intel Wireless Display technology/WiDi-ready
Bluetooth technology
Radeon HD 6630 switchable graphics 1024MB DDR3, up to 4096MB
Beats Audio
HP TrueVision HD webcam, microphone
HP Imagepad
Backlit keyboard
10/100/1000 gigabit ethernet
SD, MMC card reader
Two USB 2.0 ports
USB 3.0, HDMI, mini display, RJ-45 ports
Headphone/mic combo jack
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit
So my question to all of you out there that have this model, how has it been running and have you had ANY issues at all? Has anyone had to send there's in to the Repair Depot and if so, why? Finally, will the "HP 6-cell Slim Fit Battery for Envy 14-1000 Series (RS06)" fit the this model? It says it is for the 1000 series, but HP doesn't list this battery type for the 2000 series, just figured I would ask....
Thanks Folks and I am really looking forward to getting my second Envy (Just love this edition, to bad that are killing it in the 3rd gen)... -
The one depot experience I had was my fault - I broke a key on my keyboard and they required it to be sent in. It came back all jacked up and that's why I got my last replacement. Overall though I dig it. I know some people think there's too much fan noise but it really doesn't bother me. HP uses 2 different displays for the BrightView one; the LG one is superior. The other one (can't remember who makes it) is merely average at best while the LG one is actually decent (though definitely not awesome).
Not sure about how different the standard concerns are between the 14 and 17s, but I've gathered that the things you need to check upon receipt are:
keyboard flex
uniformity of keyboard backlighting
"bubbles" or improper looking edges
loose screen hinge (i.e., it won't stay if you pick it up or something) -
Glad to here yours is running great and that your a happy camper! Again, Thanks for the assist and I'll be checking this thread off and on until I get it, than a lot more... -
Quick question; The Envy 14-2160se has SATA 3, correct?
-
I was also wondering about the 6 cell slim fit slice battery. I have an Envy 14-2161SE and I could have sworn there was a slice battery available for it but the HP site doesn't list it as compatible. This is my first post and I'm grateful for any info. Thanks.

Again, Welcome! -
guys is there any clue's if the envy 14 is getting a refresh 2 ?

It's an awesome laptop, to be honest. The deal I found on Amazon seemed too good to be true; just over $1000 for a Core i5 (2nd-gen), 14" laptop with 6 GB of RAM, a 160 GB SSD, and switchable AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics. I naturally jumped on it, knowing that HP puts a lot of thought into their ENVY line, even though I had a very crappy experience with my old dv9000, which was a big hunk of cheap plastic.
This ENVY 14, on the other hand, has very good build quality, with solid aluminum construction throughout. My only issue with the build quality at this point is a slight gap in the casing in the front of the computer, which other people seem to have experienced as well; it doesn't really bother me that much.
The performance is amazing, as one would expect. And, when I need it on battery for an extended period of time, I can easily crank out a solid 4.5-5 hours in power saving mode and the brightness down, which is more than enough for me.
The Beats audio isn't that amazing, since the hardware doesn't really take full advantage of the tweaking capabilities of the included software, but it's still very good quality.
The SSD really seals the deal when it comes to performance; booting up is freakishly fast, as are all other activities.
In case this helps, this is my Windows Experience Index with all stock hardware and the AMD card enabled.
All in all, a sweet computer and a sweet deal. Do you have any specific questions about it? -

Hey all... I previously owned an Envy 14 (Core i5) and Envy 13 (loved the 13) and although I eventually sold the 13 I sold the 14 due to the REALLY annoying fan cycling issue. Even after tweaking to an inch of it's life the damn fan still cycled every 10 seconds.
Question 1: What's the fan like on the 14-2002ea Beats?
Question 2: Does the new model still use the slice batteries?
I'm literally ready to click the buy button. -
2. Yes -
Thanks for the reply yknyong1.
Looks like I'm going to skip the machine and SHAME on you HP for not fixing the fan issue. -

Would the model with the i5 2410m cycle? And what is the noise like, as I would prefer it be silent or a quiet whirring? I am currently deciding between the envy 2020nr or the elitebook 8560p.

Hey I'm totally new to this forums, but it seems like a great community!
I just received my hp envy 14 beats today, and i wanted to do a clean install. I have a few questions if anybody can help me out.
1.Is there somewhere that shows step by step?
2.to fresh install is it the system recovery DVD disk? then the automatic update does the drivers for me?
3. Do I need a serial code? for windows, usually under the laptop for other brands right?
4. I ordered the 80gb ssd drive + 500 hdd drive, where do i find the 500 drive? (its not in the start menu/computer). i just see the 80gb one.
5. Where do I check out if my video card drivers are up to date?
Sorry for all the questions, but if u know the answer to one of them or all, that would be greatly appreciated. -

I'm still mailing back and forth with HP support about my Envy losing wireless internet connection immediately when the power plug is removed.. no wireless internet for me on battery power
I've now tried just about everything, so now I think it all boils down to a hardware mismatch between network card and wireless router (although its a less than 1 yr old router, so this shouldn't be an issue...), or a badly written network card driver. Recently one of the people I live with bought a new HP laptop, and surprise surprise, that laptop has the exact same problem out of the box. Frustrating. Maybe HP should just send me one of their own routers or something

Hey all, I just got an Envy 14 and it's a lot bigger than I anticipated out of a 14 incher -- it feels bigger than my previous 15.6 inch Gateway haha.
Anyway, my laptop apparently has a Radeon 6630 but I don't see it applied anywhere? No settings for it, just the Intel 3000. And it's not showing up in the Windows Experience Index. What's the deal? -
If you want it to run on one or the other and switch only when unplugged, go into the BIOS and switch it to Fixed Mode. Press Esc on bootup (right after you power on) and go to the 2nd to last menu to find this option. After you change it, check out the Configure Switchable Graphics menu on your desktop/in Catalyst Control Center. I'd also recommend re-running Windows Experience Index (though it's use as a benchmark is nothing more than the most basic of comparisons). -
My friend has a first gen envy 14 and asked me a question...This may sound silly, but does anyone know where the windows license sticker is? I've only seen it briefly but I don't recall seeing it any place on the outer body. Thanks!
-
I was asking this myself. Its under the battery, a nice place if you think what happens to stickers placed on the outer chassis
-
Hey guys. So I just got a 2160SE and I was wondering what are some precautions I should take to preserve the life of this beautiful thing. I've read some of you have sent yours in for repairs which scares me. Right now I have the newest BIOS and have it configured to fixed graphics instead of dynamic. I game every now and then but use the power-saving GPU when I'm not.
I do hear the fan running quite audibly every now and then which worries me.
