Software & Driver Downloads HP ENVY 14t-1100 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

First of all HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned here but I am unable to install Microsoft Security Essentials. The publisher is not recognised once i downloaded it from Microsoft.com and it displays an error message saying the side by side configuration is incorrect (whatever that means).
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Help very much appreciated as my PC is unprotected. -
Hey guys, does ANYONE know how to update the drivers for the 5650? I tried the guide here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/6582113-post2587.html
but it didn't work.... it's still the old HP drivers. It seems that nothing i do will update my drivers from the crappy HP ones to the new ATI ones... I dunno what to do :S -
mine came with microsoft security essentials fully installed and there was no norton software...check its not already installed and configured to run already..

I've had my Envy for about four months now. It's the one with the higher resolution (1600x900). The first one, I returned immediately because of a stuck red pixel. And now, I've discovered a dead pixel on this one. I've been using laptops for 13 years, and this is my first HP, and I've never had issues with dead or stuck pixels before. Makes me wonder how speckled the screen will be after a year. HP must have terrible build quality.
-
HP doesn't manufacture the screens.
-
I realize they don't actually manufacture them, but they must do some quality testing. So maybe "build quality" isn't the right term technically, but it's still a quality issue.
Since HP apparently doesn't sell Envys with this screen anymore, does anyone know if I send it in for repair, they'll actually replace it with a display with the same resolution, or if they'll only replace it with the lower resolution one? I'm hoping the former, but I have no faith in any large corporation. -
I just bought the Envy off of Amazon.com. It came with pre installed software that I would like to keep, Photopshop Elements and Cyberlink DVD.
However, the machine has software I want to get rid of, like HP MediaSmart, Stardock Fences, HP Barnes n Nobel e-reader, and Microsoft Silverlight.
So I've decided to do a clean install.
First, I created the Recovery Discs, because my order did not come with them. Then I made a Backup Disc.
I believe I'm all set to run the clean install. Any suggestions on steps to perform this? Also, how can I reinstall Photoshop and Cyberlink?
I am aware I can go to Hp.com and reinstall the drivers.
Any other advice?
many thanks n Happy Holidays -
ok, no takers.
What software is bloatware? I went to the hp Envy 14 lounge but the software list is outdated.
I found only 10 applications to uninstall. There has to be more. Any new list? -
First post of this thread has a link for instructions on how to do a minimal install: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-owners-lounge-part-deux-273.html#post6590288
Bloatware is subjective. It would be things you don't need, use, or have alternate software for. The only way to really know what that is, is to try out everything on the system.
Also, the SWSETUP folder contains the setup files for all drivers and included software. Be sure to copy this directory before you start any sort of clean or minimal install. -
I have noticed people are returning their ENVY, or sending it for a repair due to stuck pixel. I had the same, and its easy to fix. Remember only the black pixel is dead pixels.. all others can easily be fixed; Here's how:
Stuck pixel FIX:
1. Try one of the free software programs like UDpixel or search the web for other programs.
2. Gently push with your finger covered with some soft material against the pixel. Try not to push too much around it as in which case it can cause more stuck pixels.
Hope this helps.... -
Im using logitechs. The top model with sound. I love it!
-
Sorry for the late reply
Thanks for that, tempted to update my BIOS then, is there anything that has vastly improved the "Envy Experience" between 06 and the newest one?
Sucks about the recovery discs but i've yet to use them so far *touch wood* so it wouldn't be the end of the world. I tend to do minimal installs anyway if im re-formatting -
Ok so i've done a clean install and everything seems alright. but even with the newest audio driver installed, my mute light will not change. help?
-
Just noticed HP has a $500 off coupon for the envy 14. It seems HP is rushing to clear its inventory. I noticed the preconfigured models on the the HP website and newegg are all out of stock.
-
I just got mine on thursday. already packed it up and got the rma#. just need to print the label and ship it
-
Is the envy 14 beats edition decent for gaming? I currently have a gen 1 alienware m15x with the nvidia 8800gtx. Gaming performance is still awesome but its a beast to lug around.
Looking for something more portable but still good performance. Current HP refurbs are hovering from 750 or so it seems like a great deal.
The one big concern besides from performance is the screen
current res is 1140x900 and great color and viewing angles. Not reading great things on this brightview display.
I understand sandybridge is around the corner but not looking to spend 1500 on a laptop anymore. The new alienwares are just way too big
-
I haven't experienced it, but I have had my fair share of frustrations with Windows 7...
-
The only way I can get my mute light to stay on is if I turn the volume all the way down, I don't know what could be causing your problem.
-
I saw the $500 off coupon today and got disappointed because mine is supposed to ship this weekend, noticed today that the i7 720QM upgrade changed from a $50 upgrade to a $200 upgrade, which seems suspicious
-
$500 coupon is gone now anyway..already had 275 uses I guess..that was fast..the i7 720 was always a $200 upgrade, you must have had the i5 580 selected, because the i7 is a $50 upgrade if upgrading from the 580
-
It's been out of stock for as long as I can remember..I hope it's not discontinued. I'm looking for the Envy 14 battery, model # RS06. It's in stock at HP.ca so I don't know what the problem is with the USA site

I just want to thanks this Owners Club, it has really helped me ALOT

Do you get better fps in games with the ssd?
-
No. SSD only will improve load time (though, it will help if you get stutters where the HDD is accessed during game play)

Hi guys I was wondering if you felt any differences from updating the ATI drivers? I'm currently on 10.7.
I have a problem whenever i right click on desktop and select one of the options. That particular option sticks onto the screen like a dead pixel and often I have to switch graphics card to and fro to fix the problem. And if I forget about it and accidentally right click, the option sticks there again.
Like in the below, the "S elect Tool" is stucked.
Do you guys know if updating to 10.12 will help to fix this problem? It gets kinda annoying especially when i'm watching a video that thing stays there.
Please help! Thank you. -
I never had that problem on any driver version, that is really weird and looks very annoying. I don't really know what would cause that to happen.
-
I knew it! Sandy bridge in coming to HP laptops at CES.
HP unwraps Sandy Bridge, Fusion-powered notebooks at CES 2011
What worries me is that is didn't specifically say anything about they envy 14. -
All hope is lost. Envy 14's update will probably be delayed after the 17 by a few months. Sigh.
-
yes indeed it is very annoying. it's almost like a stucked pixel until i switch grahpics or reboot..
all suggestions are welcome..
-
I found someone who solved a similar problem by doing this
"The solution I found is to go into Windows Performance Options and de-select the option for "Fade out menu items after clicking." In Vista, this is accessed from right clicking My Computer > Properties > Advanced system settings (link on the left) > Advanced (tab) > Performance settings (button) > Visual effects (tab)."
Another workaround that might work is to turn the display off an on. Just set it to do nothing and close and open the lid and see if it is still there. -
I'm having an issue where, after booting my envy, logging into my standard profile seems to take longer than it should (used to) and eventually goes to black screen with just the cursor showing that last indefinitely. If I force the computer to log off from that black screen, I am able to re-select my profile and it logs in without a hitch.
Interestingly, when I log into the administrator profile from boot, there is no issue. -
Zman thank you so much once again!! It worked by deselecting the 'Fade Out Menu Items After Clicking'.
-
Have you created a new profile and tried logging in with that? Are there any programs running at startup on your profile vs administrator profile?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
there's something that lets you turn off the "let's put the realtek network card on super power saving sleep mode that's so super we can't reinstall the drivers on a clean install...well without getting lucky."
not that I had that issue since the way you trigger it is to unplug the ethernet cable while doing a clean install or something.
other stuff was fixed here or there but *shrugs* I think there's a changelog on each bios for what it fixed but you'd have to find their cva pages on hp's website. -
OK, since installing BIOS f.23, I have had a problem where when I RESTART my computer, it hangs at the HP BIOS screen for about 5 minutes before the screen flashes black and comes back up with the BIOS screen again and then boots Windows 7 normally. This only happens on restart, shutdown works just fine. Has anyone else had a problem when they restart on the new BIOS?

So I just got my new Audio Technica ATH-M50s in today and theyve had about 8ish hours of burn in time. There is a HUGE difference in sound quality between my envy 14 and my itouch. Its incredible. These sound so natural and vivid coming from the laptop. One thing I have noticed is that the bass is a litte excesive, particularly the bass guitar in a lot of A7X songs I have. It could have just been that they werent burned in enough because the last time I tested an A7X song through the lappy was about 4 hours ago. I'm gonna test it right now and edit this once I'm done.
EDIT: Ok well the first song still feels like the bass guitar is still somewhat overpowering. I'm gonna keep playing some songs and update this later. Oh I also just read that the bass does calm down a bit with more burn in time so hopefully this will dissipate after a couple days.
EDIT2: Alright I messed with the equalizer just a tad and now its perfect. Very impressive sound quality for a laptop. -
The bass may be like that naturally but your iPod Touch may have not had enough power to drive it without an amp.
I got some Monster Turbine Pro Golds recently and the bass difference between my Droid X and my Envy is enormous, but I think it has to do mostly with the Droid X not being able to drive the IEMs completely. The Envy sounds all around better, though I sometimes get fatigue from listening to bass heavy songs because the MTPG's are very bass oriented. -

Actually the ATH-M50s have a neutral sound signature, but with the envy's bass-boosting beats audio software, they sound bassy. -
Quick question:
If I were to send in my computer for a screen replacement (I believe that it's cracked), would HP replace my Radiance screen with the new one that has the lower resolution? I have accidental damage warranty so I don't want the money spent to go to waste.
Thanks! -
The software shouldnt boost bass unless you set the equalizer to do so.

Hi Everyone,
I have had my E14 for a few months now and I am really liking the laptop.
I travel a lot and each trip is around 24-36 hours so I need a device with good battery life to enable me to use it while travelling.
I have finally found a way to buy the slice battery in Europe and was wondering if it is worth the money.
How much bulk/ weight does it add? -
1st post of thread gives dimensions and weight. Battery thread gives run times.
-
Have you got it? Is it worth the hefty price?
-
welp, the hp site says my order is still in production and is scheduled to ship on Jan 5th still (which is yesterday). Should I give them a call to see whats up?
-
No, I don't own it. I don't like added heft and increased girth. I'd rather buy another normal battery and swap - either shut down and swap or hibernate and swap.
-
That makes me curious 2.0. Does the computer keep enough power to hibernate and swap batteries? I suppose you imply it does, so my question would probably be more correctly how it does this.
This is my first laptop I've ever owned so I wasn't aware it could do that...a lot of these threads complaining about battery life and screen quality and build quality are making me nervous. I'm afraid I'm going to get it and hate it. -
Hibernate = moves RAM storage to HDD then turns it's power off.
Hibernate doesn't need any power. -
Ah, thanks altec.
-
You could also make sure "hybrid sleep" is enabled instead of hibernate. Has the benefits of both sleep and hibernate when pushing the power button.
With that enabled, when you suspend the machine, it writes a hyberfile of sorts and is there in case the system loses power while sleeping.
