the carbon fibre vinyl works great if you keep it out of direct sunlight. I do it to alot of laptops with deep scars in the upper lid.

I only got the battery because of the 30% BCB, and I only have one chance to order it from the states, so even if I wait, it will likely be even more expensive if it is sold separately in Canada.

easier way is for me to just look at the HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor's hardware ID

    ACPI\HPQ0004.

    yup.

same one. check your swsetup folder for a HPProtSHD folder.

Holy shizzzz! I'm doing the backing up SW folder to DVD and got this error..I apparantly need 819 PB of free space to burn it. After wondering what the hell a PB is, I find it's a petabyte, or 1024 TB, or 1,048,576 GB.

Um...what do I do now? There's obviously not that much stuff on my 500GB computer.

Hehehe. That's hilarious though. I didnt get to read your OP, but watever your problem is, I'd say clean install if you havent' already, and then go from there. Reason why I always advocate clean install, is cuz HP has their own funky windows installations. They like to include this, snip that out, snip this out, etc. Plus, all that bloatware that you can't see too.

A capacitor is like a very fast draining battery. It both stores up and releases electricity very quickly. What you're doing by pressing the power button while the battery is out is emptying the capacitors and making sure all the circuits/chips are fully off/reset.

    you go "wat"

and then you backup what you can on one disc and the rest on the other and find out what's giving you the false PB reading and skip it.

also swsetup is about 4.7GB so it won't fit on one dvd anyway.

I mean you can skip a couple of the things if you want (mycolors mainly, winlive also since all of that gets downloaded later on anyway if you want from windows update.

adobe and adobeflash(aflash) and shockwave and java can be downloaded by you later on, on your own as well

for finishers that includes a couple drivers/the hpprotSHD stuff (one of the drivers not in the drivers folder)

Btw, how fast(long) does win7 take to install on a 2010 computer? My dinodesktop took like half hour total.

depending on your headphones the jack gives you a static/hiss in the background.

low impediment headphones get the issue more often than not.

What Magus said, I hear a hissing background noise when I plug in a set of headphones.

Using UE SuperFi 5 Pro for anyone wondering. Oh and..what would be considered low impedance? I believe these are 21Ohms or so.

My Envy does not seem to recognize that I have an Ethernet card installed. Wireless works fine, but today when I tried to plug in an ethernet cable, nothing happened. No ethernet device exists in my device manager, even if I show hidden devices. I'm worried - is my card defective? I downloaded and tried to install the Realtek drivers from the Envy 14 drivers thread, but when I did so, it said I didn't have a card.

Alright, I dropped the size down to 3.2 GB and it's working. I have another envy sitting right beside it (going to send it back...BCB deal) so I have another copy of anything if I need it. I'll be sending it (the old one) back Thursday, probably. :D

Can't get the RealTEk Ethernet driver to install?
Plug in ethernet cable that's connected to a network or computer. Try to install, let it fail(it will), then put the computer to sleep. Then wake it and it will finish installing correctly.

My ethernet connected to my router won't fit in my Envy, and my crossover cable connected to my PC (which I know works) does not bring anything up.

I need to manually install the driver, then config it for my crossover cable. But of course, it refuses to do so.

Edit: moved my crossover cable to my router, and now it works!

if putting it to sleep and waking it up doesn't work doing the install and doing the "find the inf file and just clicking install on it" way of installing also you may have to go and turn it off and back on and then sleep and unsleep or whatever.

    it's annoying.

didn't happen to me on my clean install but I never pulled the ethernet cord out while installing windows.

now I DID experience it when uninstalling the realtek on my stock install. it's where I discovered putting it to sleep and waking it up works. ...most of the time

I'm not sure if its already been said, but the little headset port next to the headphones is compatible with iphone compatible headsets. Skype just got a whole lot more tolerable.

Also, my battery life is crap.

no that's just to get the damn realtek out of deep sleep mode so that windows realizes that it is there and that it has drivers waiting to be installed.

once the proper drivers are installed it works fine. It automatically gets disabled when unplugged, but now when you plug your cord back into the port it wakes up/gets re-enabled/exits deep sleep mode.

    ..whatever it's doing

E14 came in today. On recovery disc 2 of 4. So far everything I've checked looks good. Minimal keyboard flex, no cpu whine, optical drive isn't making any funky noise, no scratches/ dents, battery door was easy to open, and the HP logo is straight. Haven't yet checked audio out, the speakers, or any of the ports.

Will probably not do a clean install. Planning to just remove junk with Revo. With this in mind, can I back up the SW Setup folder and the delete it to free up space? Specs are in my sig.
