would the i5-520m show a noticeable performance increase over the i5-450m and what other advantages are there for having the 520 over the 450? This has probably been answered in the first thread but i never really got to read much of it =/
-
deleted by me. was typing during 2.0s post lol
-
If you don't know what those are, don't worry, I don't really either, then you probably don't need it. In general you will find a marginal difference with performance between the two. -

Hi guys,
I am from the UK and since there is no clear date as to when they will arrive here am thinking of buying an envy 14 from Germany. Has anyone else in the UK done this? Can anyone recommend a reliable retailer in Germany ?
Thanks ! -
Hey guys! Did anybody in this forum order the Amazon version?
-
Naughty. Naughty. Discussing... you know that other company's operating system on non-other company hardware... is not allowed.
-
Deleted more OS talk...
Sorry 2.0 didn't realise -

What I'm having trouble with his how HP can say the Envy 14 screen is 14.5 or 14.6 inches diagonally, yet is 13.1 inches wide and 7.4 inches high.
From everything I can see, it would have to be a 15.1" screen to be that wide and that high with a 16:9 ratio.
Any E14 owners measure their screens and compare the HP specs above? -
The screen itself is 14.5 inches wide diagionally. Roughly 12.5 inches wide and 7.25 inches tall. Thats what I measured anyways/
-
Ahh..glad to see that E14 forums arent going 50+ pages per day anymore. Thank you Mod(s).
-
thanks happy - seems like the HP specs in the E14 manual are way off, Your measurements are much closer to what a 14.5" 16:9 screen should be.

As for the speed boost, odds are there won't be much of a difference. Photoshop is multithreaded for a lot of the more CPU intensive stuff, if I remember correctly, so turbo boost won't really factor in that much.
I think there's no point in getting the 520 over the 450 -
Thanks. -
Whomever he is. <--I used proper grammar! Wow! First time. Feels nice.
But by segregating the E14 topics and moving some posts here to the respective ancillary threads, the volume of this thread decreased. And then there's the deleting of posts... -
Clearly there's no point in picking the 520m, may aswell save those 100$ to later upgrade to the new 580m (2.6ghz base & max turbo 3.3 ghz) that will come out later this year. If you plan on upgrading you should even simply get the 370m as it is only 10% behind the 420/520m in terms of raw multicore cpu power. -
UK peepz, let me know how your purchases go. -
Rumor: Intel will release their G3 SSDs which will be cheaper than the G2s because of the 25nm manufacturing process node and of course, a lot faster. -
-
Point of this point. Its a rumor, and tech is changing very fast especially on emerging consumer technology like SSDs, so when you wait for something else to come out something better is just over the horizon. -
-
Thanks Matt.

*prays for no problems in newly ordered Envy 14*
Seriously now that I've had one in my hands I couldn't imagine having a different laptop... all of them aren't as sleek by comparison.
Also, people who suggest vaios: other than the Z every model looks plasticy and feels cheesy -
-
I think we're all aware of that. But thanks for posting the obvious.
I only posted that tipoff because sasjegbruv123 declared his intention to buy a separate SSD in the future. By no means was I encouraging him to keep waiting for that last big thingie. -
Yes, hence the reason I posted the disclaimer term "rumor" before the beginning of my comment. Rumors aren't meant to be taken as fact except by 9/11 conspiracy believers and birthers. -
My hopes exactly too. This isn't some notebook that I'm chucking aside after 2 years. I'm hoping to keep it for at least 3 years, possibly even 4 barring any unexpected mechanical problems that can't be fixed affordably. -
I would not, and did not with 30% BCB on my E14, purchase an SSD this year. I know for certain that Intel and Crucial will have more competitive offerings very soon. -
IDK about that,
I'm a laptop junky, I need the hottest new **** every year and a half.
Seriously I wish I spent more on my wardrobe and less on tech,
Same with my phone, my droid gen 1 is working fine but I want a droid 2 because... well because it's newer, kinda. -
In a perfect world maybe
edit* That will only make SSDs more affordable in 2012 and the demand of memory will only increase, it will probably be time to buy a new laptop when SSDs become affordable... -
Can't wait for an envy 14, looks like a great machine, and I think i may just get the ssd now if i have the finances available within a week and a half or so.
Does anyone know how COD MW2 plays on this machine? I have my xbox for most of the other games i play.
Zeth assuming you're a naruto fan, have you seen ultimate ninja storm 2 due to be released later this year? looks awesome! -
Thanks. A little fact-checking never helps. I'm a pretty hands-on guy. Until Intel actually releases the product, such product announcements amount to sparkly sugar sprinkles over the vaporware cookie. I'll believe it when I see it. But that isn't to say I'm not a bit excited to hear about such developments. Definitely worth noting if you're in the market for a SSD and thinking about getting one sometime in late 2010
The flash market in general is just beginning to mature. We probably won't see any major price drops until well in 2011 when all the flash manufacturers (e.g. Samsung, Toshiba, Hynix, Intel/Micron, etc) have finished ramping up production. Toshiba has that ginormous multibillion dollar factory in Yokkaichi to tend to. I'm also hearing about Samsung ramping up production but no word as to any new factories beyond the ones it just finished in Texas. -
Oh Em GEEZUS sasjeg... you are out of your mind.
Having a laptop thats 3 years old bothers me to death,
How do you have an 8 year old laptop O_O
Is it made out of stone? -
-
My pc until recently i've had for 11 years... just constantly upgraded it
This vaio is great tho, after all these years it can still do everything i need. the only thing it hasn't handled is Photoshop CS5... i feel sad to have to leave it lol -

How long do you guys think this laptop would last? Im hoping for 3 years :/
And im talking technology/build wise. -
Hard to say. You mileage may and will vary greatly. My Dell Vostro's screen died after 1 year and 9 months and the GPU after 1 year due to Nvidia's 8600M GT fiasco. I've met 2 other people on NBR who have the same Vostro and claim that their screens are still running strong after 2 and a half years.
I'm buying a Square Trade Warranty sometime in the next few weeks to ensure I get as much mileage outta this baby for at least 3 years. -
Well, that and I have access to employee discount pricing for several top drives. -
im geting my e14 on the 28th and cant wait! ill do a clean install right away. iv askd ths a couple of times but no one answrd, maybe cuz its a noob question, but just wanted to try agen...
do you guys advice installing the drivers from the bacld up swsetup or would it be better to just go to the hp envy 14 driver site in nbr and just download/install from there? also, some say to uninstall the driver first then installing the new one. how do i do that and do i have to even with a clean install? thanks in advance for the reps guys -
