Are you on HP win 7 Install? If that is the case, it might be your win 7, do a clean install.

    Nope..

Yes, but I used shaolinX's method. Here's what I did:

    1. Download and install Z-Zip
    2. Download the BIOS from HP Software & Drivers Downloads page. This should download sp49571.exe for F.06 A.
    3. Disable your anti-virus automatic protection.
    4. Right-click sp49571.exe>7-Zip>Extract Here
    5. Right-click Winflash.exe>7-Zip>Extract Here
    6. Edit platform.ini >In the [ForceFlash] section change ALL=0 to ALL=1 then save and exit.
    7. Right-click InsydeFlash.exe>Run as administrator
    8. Click OK when prompted. After the BIOS has been flashed the computer will shutdown. It doesn't re-boot automatically like it does when you run the installer.

You don't need an HP_TOOLS partition to use this method.

I then reflashed the F.13 A BIOS by just running the sp50247 installer. This time I tried it without having my HP_TOOLS partition mounted. It worked. Note I had previously done a clean install removing all partitions except the Windows C partition.

You might want to try clean install, some people reported that even minimized recovery have lots of junks. Especially in your case, where you seems to try a lot of things already and it doesn't seems to work.

What I did on my system is I use a system backup and restore, where it create a disk image of my system. I would prefer to recover my system from this image instead of the HP CD. AT this point, I dont see the benefit going back to F06 A BIOS. The improvements they made from 06 to 13 is far greater then the consequences.

The only benefit I can see of going back to F.06 A is that it seems to be the last BIOS under which the HP System Recovery works. I don't expect ever to need to do that, as my personal preference would be to do a clean install and restore my data from backups if something went catastrophically wrong. I guess your method of restoring a disk image would amount to the same thing. Perhaps if I were to sell my ENVY at some later date I might want to use System Recovery to get it back to its factory state.

    BOO HP!

Originally got a dv6tse and it was at my door by estimate build date.

They can't even get this one shipped by the estimated shipping date! UGH!

The radiance is a HUGE selling point, IMO. I was going to wait to see what the October refresh was going to be, but I am so glad I didn't. I knew my impatience would pay off one day.

In any case, I'd wait to see what other high end display gets put onto the Envy. No sense in getting it otherwise.

did i jump the gun getting this now?

like i said, i had originally got the hp dv6t special edition with roughly same specs...lesser build quality, no beats audio, and no radiance display - did have blu-ray however, but not a dealbreaker for me.

    Hey guys,

I have read on this forum that doing a clean install should be doable, somebody mentioned to be on ATI card while booting. I start my laptop plugged, boot from Win7 DVD and after while, as many people have reported, I get a blank screen. Is there a way to recover from this? I have already formatted my Windows partitions.

    Thanks.

    mess with some settings.

disable hp quickweb in the bios. turn on boot from cd, set cd first, etc.

doing some of those should work.

So I just got off the phone with an HP rep. He said the radiance screen will definitely be back, but with the next generation. He said that probably means November or December but he is not sure. I really hope he means October. Because I want a E14 with a i5-560m and 640Gb 7200RPM and a Radiance screen badly!!!! Im finally close to having saved up enough for it (Been reading since the E14 availability thread..lol) and they take away THE BEST thing about it. I would be lying if I said i wasnt pissed. But im hopeful at the same time. I just want this thing much much sooner than later!!

Can you please tell me how to turn ATI on? Isn't it enough to start the laptop plugged to the electricity? Because no matter what I try, I get the blank screen.

still, disable hp quickweb in the bios if not already. it could be messing things up since it doesn't exist anymore but the envy thinks that it still is there

I got my battery slice today, and oh wow. I love it.

I was in class most of the day today and I still have over 40% battery left and I was on the highest brightness. Battery Bar quoted me at 12 hours of estimated battery life while light internet browsing/word typing.

What was funny was that the slice came in a huge box. It was giant, with another box covered in bubble wrap. The Envy 14 box itself would have fit in the battery slice box haha.

For $130, its well worth it.

Look for it through the HP website, under batteries. It had an accessory discount and then with HPA it was $148. Then I used a random $25 dollar off coupon (Just google hp coupons and you should be able to find one) to bring it down to $123.

    After tax it was $130.42

    edit: Heres the link

Use coupon code SVMB39487 to bring it down to 122.19 before tax with free shipping

How heavy does it make the laptop, comparatively/subjectively? I feel like usually I never need more than 4 hours of battery life anyway and the weight is kind of annoying already.

Has anyone had weird problems with connecting/disconnecting the headphone jack? I plug in to a PC audio amp and it often will cutoff low frequencies (I think it does this when switched to internal speakers to avoid distortion). I've also had several occasions where the internal speakers will be on when the pc speakers are plugged in. Pretty annoying. It seems like a driver issue, but I'm not sure.

You might get F13 once yours back anyway, however if it doesn't...just download and run the exe. F13 dont need a workaround, finally HP make it to work for clean install!

I just got that dang noise again. It's a weird loud buzzing. Anybody got any clues as to why it happens? It happens very rarely, but the rarity makes the occurrence that much more annoying. I have tried various things, I can't reproduce it, it happens on it's own, only when I listen to music or audio of any kind. Any ideas what would maybe cause this?

That's strange, it works fine here, maybe try setting the powerplan back to default and go from there?

The F.13 actually made my temps a few degrees lower. Both cores are now below 30 degrees most of the time. When it's very quite I maybe even think I hear my fans just a bit more (which would explain the drop in temperature).

You didn't do a clean install right .Like you said before, maybe it's a leftover from some HP software. On my clean install the following HP software is allowed to run when Windows start:

    -IDT PC Audio
    -HP MediaSmart Smartmenu
-Furthermore are Intel software is allowed to start (3x Intel Common User Interface and IAStorIcon

Then also the following HP services are able to start:

    -Audio service
    -Andrea ST Filters service
    -Intel Rapid Storage

All programs/services/drivers are the latest from the drivers thread.

I'd say check your msconfig settings with mine. Maybe you could uncheck something?

One final thought, maybe it's the microphone interfering? Did you try disabling it? Mine is disabled by default.

According to the driverthread of the Envy 14 it is recommended to let the Intel Rapid Storage program run even if you are only having one harddisc. For further details see the driver thread or here:

What about the intel management stuff? Any performance boost there or anything?

That seems normal to me. I was about to watch a 720P DivX for half an hour and I kept track of the temps for you. On the left is idle, on the right is right after watching the movie. You can actually see it hit 40 degrees a couple of times. The Envy was connected to the carger, brightness at 90% and on the Intel GPU:

EDIT: Ambient temperature is 20,5 degrees

i don't notice too many people on here with the i7 processors...

is the i5 better? i'm aware it runs cooler. i will be using the envy for architecture school (cad/revit/3dmax/adobe cs5), and was told the i7 would be better for me.

one of the main reasons i switched from the dv6tse was b/c it seemed to run really hot, causing the fan to come on constantly with very little work. am i going to run into the same problem with the envy? it appeared ventilation was much better on this model...
