any coupons/cashback thingys yet?!

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Damn, I think you're right.
The email I got from them a couple weeks ago said that HP laptops come with a global warranty, then said that HP doesn't offer international extended warranties. I thought that second part was just splitting hairs, i.e. it's not an "international" warranty, it's just our regular warranty, which is international.
Screw $320 for a warranty that I can only use 6 weeks a year... Now the question is: does that increase or decrease my chances of buying the E14?
Anyone know of any decent third-party international warranties? Or a warranty I could buy that's China specific? -
just be very careful with your laptop. Buy a sleeve for it, carry it gently, dont leave it out in the heat, etc.
I should start a warranty company. they must make truck loads of $$$ -
wow, the hp dm4t has like the perfect processor options
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-430M Dual Core processor (2.26GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.53GHz
Included in price
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-450M Dual Core processor (2.40GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)with Turbo Boost up to 2.66 GHz
+$40.00
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-520M Dual Core processor (2.40GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz
+$100.00
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-540M Dual Core processor (2.53GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.06GHz
+$175.00
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-620M Dual Core processor (2.66GHz, 4MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.33GHz
+$275.00
Comes standard with the 430 instead of the 370, $40 upgrade from 430 to 450 instead of $50, $60 upgrade from 450 to 520 instead of $100, $75 more for the 540 which isn't even offered on the envy 14, and then the option of the i7-620.
Why couldn't the envy have the same options? Kind of annoying when stuff like this happens and theres no reasonable explanation. -
And, the dv6t comes with 6gb memory free upgrade, i5-430 standard, and options for a 750gb/1TB hard drive, which I would be very interested in were it offered. Just feel like I'm getting jipped on their premium laptop when the options aren't even as good as their lesser ones.
-
Well, if my math is correct, a discounted dv6t is about $300 less than the envy 14 but envy 14 offers radiance, 8 cell battery, and more compact with no discount. When there are coupons that work with envy 14, it'll be worth the extra money.
pretty lame how envy 17 gets a $300 coupon + 25% bing on release day and envy 14 gets nothing. -
Those who ordered...went it went through, does your order say verified or "Order being verified"? I had some trouble launch day and ended up having to make the order on the phone. Just want to make sure there's no problems.
=Jason- -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
it takes a day or so for them to verify.
they may give you a call or something. -
Depends on how risk-averse you are, I guess! I bought the two year extended warranty (which is really just two years total, since it replaces the first year standard warranty) because I'm not totally sure that I'll be in India next year. If I am- oh well. I'm pretty risk averse, though. I personally think that laptop warranties are like rental car insurance- a rip off price wise, but you are screwed in the case that you are caught without one.
If I were you, I would look into the possibility of buying a warranty through your credit card company. It's not ideal, since they are a third party, but it may give you international coverage.
I previously lived in Beijing for a couple of years, and while I was there I was using a Lenovo T61. My warranty covered me there, and, of course, there were a few Lenovo outlets in the area
Fortunately, my T61 never needed any servicing.
edit for a little more info: You could also just purchase a laptop + warranty in China, but it would be significantly more expensive than if you bought it in the US. You would also have to install Windows in English (presuming that is the language you prefer to work in).
edit again to include language from HP's email to me re: international warranty
-
May be HP guys are having a cats eye in various forums like NBR. And here people were crazy about the laptop (10 pages of owners thread before actual launch !) and HP is harvesting the money from this craziness of potential customers. Let the first detailed reviews come and see if does not suffers the problems like Envy 15/17. Its toooo pricey at least for the moment and HP has increased $100 from its promised price
-
Soo, I'm about one step away from pulling the trigger on this purchase but I'm torn on one thing. That would be the HD. I've never used an SSD, but from what I hear, they're pretty nice. I was wondering if it would be better to go with the 160 GB SSD or the 500 GB HD? Feel free to criticize
-
They're fast, but expensive and don't have much storage. I both need storage and don't have that kind of money, so I'm getting the base HDD and upgrading to a next gen Momentus XT down the road. If you have money, need speed, and don't need a ton of storage, then by all means get the SSD.
-
Hey guys, I just have a little question here.
If I were planning to use this laptop for school and play some modern games, would the i3 suffice?
I'm not planning on doing any photo/video editing or any advanced programs. The most I would be doing is gaming.
Or would there be a noticeable increase in performance in gaming if I upgraded to the 430M or 450M of the core i5s.
I'm trying to find the best price/performance ratio for my needs. I won't need any extra power for anything beyond gaming.
Thanks in advance. -
What is the advantages of the Momentus XT? I see a bunch of people saying they're going to upgrade to one.
-
It's a hybrid of ssd and regular hd. I believe it moves the most frequently used files into the ssd portion so it'll load faster and the less used files will be stored in regular sd.
personally, i think the disadvantages outweight the advantages. Disadvantages being lower lifespan, increase power usage, and increase noise according to wiki. -
I got the 160 GB SSD. I don't really understand why people need to carry around 500 GB of stuff with them, unless they are video editors. I just keep mp3s, some photos, productivity software (office, MATLAB etc) on my computer and leave movies on an external HD.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Yeah, I've thought about this, but the price thing and the Windows thing have been stumbling blocks. Most computers are much more expensive here (like the 19,000 RMB Envy 13 with mid-level config at my local computer store, at least $1000 more than buying Stateside), and it's hard to find a computer with the kind of specs I want here.
Regarding the Windows reinstall, would a legitimate product key for a Chinese Win 7 install cover an English-language reinstall, or would I have to buy an "upgrade" for that? -
From 14 hours battery life to 8 hours battery life
From $999 base price to $1099 base price
From i5 processor to i3 processor
From $75 slice to $200 slice
On top of this no $300 off or 25% BCB -
Besides the Momentus XT are there any other hybrid hard drives out there? Thanks for the help
-
I've decided to wait for the next deal, and then I will buy. I figure I can wait and save a couple hundred bucks.
I also just wanted to say that the pricing for the upgrades on the Envy 14 are stupefying. The processor upgrades are much to expensive when compared to the DM4 and the extra $200 for the slice battery is simply ridiculous. I might as well just pick up another 8 cell.
Also, I can't seem to find battery life claims on the website. -
Depends on the game. Bad Company 2 does well with quad cores or four threads, and most RTS games use a lot of CPU cycles. Otherwise most other games are GPU bound. I'd pick the 400 series i5 over the i3 though, because it gives you the turbo boost.
Momentus XT has a built-in 4GB SSD. It's really just used as a smart read cache to hold your most accessed files for fast reads. It also has a traditional 32MB read/write cache, where most 500GB drives are 16GB, so that helps too. Initial use it doesn't respond much more quickly than a regular hard drive, but repeated use makes it learn and responds faster than a desktop VelociRaptor, close to an SSD in common circumstances. -
Nope, it's the only one on the market right now.
Seems to have been fairly successful so far, though, so I'd expect some competitors will pop up. -
And how does everyone respond to HP's dishonesty and manipulation and treat them a lesson? By giving HP their money, of course!
I do hope we see some reviews for the Envy 14 this week. I'll consider it with a solid discount, but I'm still waiting for Acer to come around. -
Problem is that HP never officially released any information. Everything we gathered was unofficially from youtube discussions, and lots and lots and lots, did I say lots, of speculation?
-
Thanks for the help guys.
-
The video by the ENVY team did state that the Envy 14 would be $999. HP is just getting greedy right now. Besides there is always something wrong with the first batch of new items, so it's best just to wait awhile.
-
Is the keyboard on the envy's (in general), the same as the dv6z with reguards to the feel and contuor of the keys. I saw the dv6z in stores and just wanted to have a comparison.
-
Yes, hopefully by mid-July, we'll either see ENVY14 reviews, or 3820TG w/ 540M/620M options???
-
Actually, they did make a statement for the price. The battery life was stated in the videos by HP people, not just speculation.
They did state that they were gonna have i3 cpus in the 14, so I don't know why it's a big deal that it's there.
They also didn't say anything about the slice pricing model at all, but $200 for it is absolutely ridiculous.
complaining about the lack of a $300 off coupon or 25% cashback is just being selfish and greedy. (on the part of ozziesandoval) Since when were companies REQUIRED to give a discount, especially a new item? -
Exactly. Which is why I have yet to pull the trigger and buy this today, I was tempted but as a consumer I can't stand but to feel a little cheated.
Everyone on youtube who talked about the envy 14 were people who work for HP. -
Never said it was a requirment, but when the old envy's came out and the 17 came out, there were discounts, I guess I now feel accustomed to it, thought it is nothing bad which is why I stated "on top of that no $300 off or 25% BCB. I said that because if it was, I probably would have pulled the trigger and bought an envy 14.
Edit* they did mention an i5 as base. -
After waiting for over a month AND religiously following all the posts on this thread and the other threads AND scavenging through the internet almost every day for extra bit of information and detail on Envy 14, I feel its time for me to vent my frustration.
a) i3 core as base - seriously ???
b) Why the @#$% not include 540m???
c) Why isn't the price discounted for recommended configuration ?? If you want people to upgrade then give them an incentive to do so.
d) Whats with the sky high prices for the SSDs ?? Vaio has got a cheaper SSD option.
I need to get myself a laptop before the school starts and I am afraid I cant wait longer.
-
they're called "insurance companies"
-
If you look at thenextbench, HP's forum, the announcement made there says it has an i3 :/
About the coupon, I'd probably jump on the laptop as soon as a coupon comes out too. -
HP seems to be pushing the estimated build date back. July 8th now instead of the 7th.
-
probably because of people ordering for the last 22 hours or so. Sounds pretty normal to have an estimated date of 1 day later for the next day
-
Maybe because it's been a day? Would you be surprised if they push it back to July 9 tomorrow?
Think I'll just use the student discount if there's still no coupon tomorrow. -
^ Yeah, I was about to say.
Seems like a sizeable amount of people already hit the button that stays out of my reach -
Compared to regular SSDs or HDDs?
-
Anybody know where a man can purchase himself a 500 GB Momentus XT hard drive?
-
As far as I can see there aren't any coupons and BCB is only %10. HP does give a %10 discount to students though.
I have never used BCB before. From what I've read, I've gathered that I'm suppose to find Hp direct from bing shopping and log in to it and do my shopping. Then bing would email me about getting %10 back?
Once I long into HP via bing can I also log into my student acount on HP.com and get another %10 off? -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
newegg has 'em right now I think
-
regular hdds
-
You can't stack bing and student discount.
-
Yes, you're welcome to try that. But I hear that the discounts do not stack. You would probably get the student discount, but the BCB would be denied.
-
Amazon, tax-free, for $129.99.
-
If I can afford it, should I just buy the vaio z, or this undiscounted envy14?
-
Some one explain this to me the rook.
Does having a quad processor kill battery that much faster?
Does having the quad processor cause you to have non switchable graphics card causing it to, again, kill the battery that much faster?
Also, whats a good cooling pad/?? -
I'd say envy 14 is the better deal but if they both have the same price, i'd pick the vaio z.
-
I say yes to both. Honestly, I personally feel that if someone wants a quad processor they should just get the HP Envy 17 as a desktop replacement anyways. They released an update that fixed most of the heat issue.
