I'm hoping to order today or sometime soon, but the more I think about it, the more I worry the Envy 14 will suffer from poor battery life, even on the iGPU. Just looking at similar configurations (Core i5 and Intel iGPU) with 59 watt hour batteries is making me nervous.
-
About the shipping dates, HP ships REALLY fast for their standard shipping. I ordered a monitor with my Envy on Monday, and it's expected arrival WAS July 1, but I checked it this morning, and it's out for delivery! That's really good news for the shipping of out computers.
-
so it was expected to arrive tomorrow and as of right now its being delivered? how is that "really fast"? sounds like they're on time at best
-
^ I ordered it Monday afternoon. That means it took 2 days..a lot faster than the said 5-7 days.
-
God I hate it when being cheap comes back to bite me in the hiney! LOL -
better to save $40 on shipping to have it 3-4 days faster and spend that toward an upgrade on the E14 which you'll have for however long.
-
I am ok for right now to just wait for the reviews, you know, to make sure that the wifi won't cut out if you type on the keyboard the "wrong way"...
-
Yay ! Fed Ex just delivered my.........................................................................Targus Zip Thru case.

Personally, I don't find it worthwhile to spend $50+ to get my computer a couple days earlier. If it were a matter of arriving in time for my next return trip to China, it would be worth it, because getting it to me in China would take longer and be much more expensive than getting it a day or two before flying out, but since I expect it to arrive at least 3-4 weeks before I come back (though I haven't even returned to the States yet), I'm happy to save $50 and wait a few more days. -

can we get some dimensions in the first post. I've been finding myself looking them up and comparing it to the 13/15" MBPs. 16:9 makes these suckers kind of wide. But looking at the numbers, it's not too bad for size. All thickness is near 1".
Envy 14: 9.3 x 14 x 1.1 inches ; 5.2 pounds
15" MBP: 9.82 x 14.35 inches ; 5.6 pounds
13" MBP: 8.94 x 12.78 inches ; 4.5 pounds
and cuz I have one, M11x: 11.25” x 9.19” x 1.29 ; 4.4 pounds
trying to convince myself 14.5" isn't bad... but I do just love 13.3" or smaller. -
-
P.S. It doesn't have a backlit keyboard, whoever asked me that. The 4820TG is very similar to the Asus UL models. -
Do you guys know of any good current or upcoming laptops that might be in the pipeline? I am especially interested in ones from asus, or anything 13" to 15.x" with an NVIDIA gpu that is on par with the ati 5650, such as a GTS 250M, GTS 350M, or the upcoming fermi GF104 cards. I want decent battery life if I can get it, at least 4.5 hours of web surfing and ms office. I would consider other ati based laptops if you think they are worth a mention, not interested in a timeline or vaioZ or macbook. thanks.
-
There is the 11" M11x with 335m which is near performance of 5650. I believe there is one asus that has a 335m which is 14". I'll look it up.

do you just prefer nvidia? need cuda? ATI cards draw less power and have DX11 which is nice. I like either brand personally. -
What I do wonder about with the Envy 14 is not so much the i5, but rather how the high-resolution Radiance display will impact the battery life compared with models that have otherwise similar specs. -
can i use bing cash back and the student discount together?
-
-
For me it's a Belkin Messenger Bag which will be delivered tomorrow.
Still hoping for Envy 14 till weekend but will be very happy if it's delivered next week. -
Can we get a post in the FAQ that says you canNOT use Bing cashback with any discounts (student 10%, coupons)? I swear I've read the same sequence of posts over a dozen times in the past week.
-
Very good deal at 13€ from Cyberport with shipping and all.. It seems to be good quality, provides good protection and has plenty space for cables, power adapters and some paper..
It just looks very sad, all empty and alone!
Come on, HP!
BTW, 2.0, can you link to these pictures on the first page? Its advertising pr0n, but for all those waiting it might help.. -
My Swissgear Lancer backpack is coming tomorrow too...pretty nice price got it for $35 original price $70.

I tried to be helpful and wrote tons of faq related information in my first several posts to the forum, but some of it was too subjective to be included in the faq, so 2.0 didn't want to link it. I have a complete list there of accesories, with part#'s and wattages for the batteries, the I/O layout, details on how computrace lojack works, a discussion of warranty service v.s. private insurance showing the pro's and con's, and also a list of rumors some of them I managed to clear up with HP envy technicians. It sucks for all that information to get buried, but anyone who needs to know something not in the FAQ you can look up my first posts under my profile.
P.S. can i get bcb after stacking 2 coupons onto my student discount? XD -
-
The good news is that some of the info is correct and objective but is also redundant. So the opening post echoes some of what you were hoping to have included. -

I don't know if an American could pull that bag off. Any better than I can pull off communicating in German anymore - blast the slow drain of disuse!
Personally, I've got the 14.5" Link Pattern sleeve coming - at around $25 with the student- + notebook purchase- + instant rebate- discounts, I figured it was worth checking out. I'm not sure how much use it'll get since I ride my bike everywhere, and I generally need more space (i.e. my messenger bag) when I go to work or travel, but I'd like to give the sleeve concept a go anyway. -
-
hello, new to the forum! is anyone looking into a SFBags Waterfield SleeveCase for the Envy 14? Hoping they make a custom size for it...
-
-
Yea I think it will work great for me. SSD seems sexy
-
good lord... I take a few days off from the forums and I'm 900 posts behind...
Any interesting news I missed? -

450m is 'bout the same as the 520m (520m may not be worth the $100 upgrade).
370m is a 450m without turbo boost and a slightly weaker integrated card (667mhz compared to 766mhz) and may or may not be worth the $75 upgrade depending on your budget.
Processor apparently CAN be swapped out but they are underneath the vid card or something weird like that (someone got the envy engineers on the line when they were talking to HP) -
I wonder how difficult it would be to order an Envy 14 with the base CPU and then swap it out when it arrived for an i7 620m...

So, the bottom is really black? I figured the youtube units must had just been unfinished. Seems surprising they wouldn't match it to the rest of the body.

To be fair, that's coming from a warehouse in the States, not from a factory in China. Speaking of which, I wonder where they assemble the Envy line. I live a couple clicks away from a Foxconn plant, but I believe they do more Mac stuff, along with their own name-brand parts... -
EDIT: scratch that, they have the same clock speed. Now I'm confused, haha... -

Hey guys and gals
Im in the process of currently looking for a new laptop and the Envy 14 popped up in conversation. Sorry if these have been asked before but
1) When will it be available in the UK and how readily available will it be? I realise it's not even out in the US yet so I can only imagine we're talking months rather than weeks
2) How much is it going to cost?
3) I've been on the UK HP website and had a look around, found some snippets of info but could only find an Envy14 with 1366 x 768 resolution, are there any that are planned to have an i5 and a slightly higher resolution? Maybe 1600 x 900 or something?
Cheers everyone, i'll be keeping my eye firmly focused on the forums for now on! -
I found an absolutely beautiful McKlein bag in a really nice Chestnut colored leather at the Macy's near my home for $85. It was a steal at that, and I think its gonna be perfect for my Envy, based on the published measurements.
