Thats more of a HDD thing. If you have a Solid State Drive it will be much faster. Copying files isn't an intense task on the CPU.

Do you mean "moot" ?
-
HDD caddy + 2.5" HDD/SSD. You just have to find the right caddy size for it, which we have no idea yet. User envious14 posted this: http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=259. Or, you can leave it blank, for increased cooling

I've only had 1 laptop: dv2610us. The Broadcomm wireless/bluetooth adapter seems fine for me. I used to get really good download speeds in conjunction with my linksys wrt64g router + time warner high speed cable internet (9mb dl). Couldn't tell you how good the Intel ones are though. Most likely just a brand-name thing. Having 3 antennas isn't such a bad idea though.

This only adds up to be $1087? Where's the other 12bucks ?

r&d char limit -
Jeez WoW lasted three hours before getting uninstalled again..i need my Envy!!!
-
Hilarious
Or maybe it's for the packaging, cuz it does come with a neat looking box, rather than the usual brown cardboard that every other HP comes in. -
GAHAHAHAHAHA!
thanks for that

omg cant wait to get off this netbook *__*

...I just experienced a really strange glitch on the hp website.
I first configured the dv6t:se, then the 15, then went back to the 14. As I got to the ram on the 14 my student discount jumped to 87.5% <--I saved an archive of the page
Unfortunately the discount vanished (well... went back down to 10%) once I clicked the accessory button...
EDIT: I can't recreate the glitch; I tried closing my browser and reopening my last session then going through what I remembered doing... but it didn't work :/Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
If anyone wants to try recreating the glitch, I forgot to mention something: I chose the recommended starting config. (I have no clue if it makes any difference though.)
I WANT A $160 ENVY!
hmm... Is there any way I could get a discount from HP because of this?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Alright, I think at this point, we've run out of things to talk about >_<
(funny vid tho, gotta love the no-legged ninja!) -
I just saw that the tool Battery Eater is freeware/donateware.
I should have time this evening to do the "Reader's Test" and perhaps the max performance test.
Any ideas ? -
Let just see how much you can get out of the battery in all the power saving modes and configurations possible... the scenario being long aeroplane flight needing to do work and maybe small intervals of rest where u may need some entertainment
so yer Readers Test is what we are all waiting for... maybe the Envy will show more promise... maybe
-
That would be great Stefan! Also, I would really like to know how hot the 5650 gets under full load while gaming. If you could find that out, then I will love you forever <333!

I might have missed it but i can't find any definitive answer on how the switching between integrated and discrete graphics is done. I've heard rumors of one being able to control this manually through catalyst control center. Can any owners elaborate on this matter?
Thanks -
Not 100% sure about the e14 but my friend has a hp dv6 with switchable graphics and he told me that if he has discrete graphics on and he is doing simple stuff like word, a popup/bubble comes up from the taskbar and says that you don't need discrete graphics on and asks if you would like to switch to integrated. You can also do this manually in control panel.
I think you can set it to change automatically, ask or manually. But I don't think there's a physical switch (such as F4 etc) that you can press to switch like on the alienware. -
Because I'm getting my e14 from America. Will it still work fine in Australia? Like the bluetooth and wireless etc? Just making sure so sorry if it's a stupid question lol
-
bluetooth and wireless would work since it's universal
-
Yeah it will all work fine, you will just need to switch the US power cord to a Australian power cord if they are different (they are here in the UK)
Has anyone who ordered from opal_cadet on ebay got a EDD from HP yet? I ordered sunday and she said it would be ordered today as HP were shut (guessing they phone the order through rather than use the website as that obviously wouldnt be shut!) -
I can't help but refresh this thread every coupla minutes
I can only get it from the ebayer opal_cadet as I live in HK.....and they only have 1 configuration starting at USD1920......(same specs run for ~USD1600 in US).......what a ripoff
as far as I know these guys have ordered theirs from ebay

Yeah, that's what I heard too, and imo the best solution. Since we both heard this it is very likely true, but I would appreciate if an owner could confirm this I would be very pleased...
-
I've emailed the ebay person with the specs I want. Hopefully he replies by tomorrow. So I haven't officially ordered it yet but I will very soon.
-
If you boot without external power it uses integrated.
If you boot with external power it uses dedicated.
You can always switch the GPU through catalyst control center when no software is running which makes use of grafik features. Perhaps there is a shortcut to do this but I didn't use it yet.
If you use dedicated and plug out the power cord it asks if you want to change GPU. Same when you use integrated and plug in the external power.
It warns if there is software running which hinders a change.
If I remember correctly you can change the default GPU for battery and external power in the control center or in the energy settings.
It's not as automatic and smooth as optimus with nvidia should be, but it works. -

ok people I'm ordering my e14 with the following specs, tell me if I should change anything etc.
windows 7 home premium
intel i5-450M Processor
160GB SSD
4GB RAM (Dimm 2)
and the rest I left. Is that ok? Any recommendations etc? -
Ok, this sounds very good. as long as I am able to switch manually I'm glad. As I read your post I might even be able to define that one powerplan only uses discrete graphics and another only integrated - regardsless of the computer is on battery or cord. Do you have the 450 or 520 CPU, and is it catalyst or the OS that asks if you wish to switch GPU?
-
Even though others have posted pics before
I know u guys drool over each and every e14 photo u can get
so here u go...
Unboxing in taiwan (translated)
u have to click load images at top right or click each link individually -
I hope it is possible to use both GPUs in Linux too.......(Could you try it sometime: use WUBI to install a ubuntu and tell me what you experiencing? It is not important if you don't feel comfortable with Linux, just an other thing I would like to know
)
-
His response:
"The warranty is from Hewlett-Packard and it comes with a 1-year warranty. If it is damaged upon receipt, a replacement will be sent. You can local support from HP in Canada." -
Thanks. Have you ordered from the ebay person? I've sent the specs I want.
-
Yeah sending the email now. It's currently 6 am here and just waking up
-
thanks for the pics, but it seems like all the links are broken =(
-
She is based in california and will probably reply this evening.
I emailed Sunday lunchtime and she listed it for me sunday night. I ordered:
450m/4gb/500gb as I already have a 160gb ssd to put in and I am going to put the 500gb in the optical bay.
Your spec looks good though. -
seems google translate isn't playing well with the page
just load the original page in chinese
then click on each of the blue links in the first post to load each image -
They have the core i5 540M......????
-
i already saw those..but thanks
-
Awesome, thanks!
-
Just to put your results into perspective I was curious what the desktop im currently using gets on this benchmark program, it's over 5 years old so I wasn't expecting much and I was right not to...it scored 542 LOL
The Envy will be a nice little upgrade for me when I can finally get my hands on it -
Geez...I'm starting to think the world outside the Envy 14 lounge is the REAL world !!
-
I saw that too...
so why isn't it available in the US?
And isn't it funny they have only 2GB of RAM
-
Hmm interesting, I know the FFXIV is pretty bad, but it still gives us a number we can compare it to. I am assuming that bench was run at 720p since the other option is 1080. Not bad score although I got a 1300 and I've seen other M11xR1 with 1500. This along with the 3dmark06 score posted before seems to show the 5650 and 335m are pretty close to each other, but of course the i5 will kill the C2D ULV when it comes to heavy cpu based games.. but interesting still. Thanks erath for the benchmark!
-
I'm scared I'm going to run out of space on my 160GB SSD. I'm already using 161GB on my current 250GB Hard Drive and I don't have any games installed like I'm planning on doing with my new e14. A bit worrying.
