eh.
not really.
if you really wanna upgrade later on you can just grab the 1-dimm version of the 4gig and buy more ram at a later date or something.
but I think 4'll be fine (I just went with the 2-dimms of 2gigs)
-

-
4GB 2dimm is enough. Seriously.
-
Four is honestly enough for most programs at this point. Yes Windows 7 can handle 120 GB's worth of data in the ram, but it would take you years to fill that up. If you want to future proof, your best bet would be to go with the stock ram option on the CTO screen, and then when 8gigs is standard, just buy two new 4gb sticks.
You could spend 25 for the 1dimm 4gb stick, but then whatever new stick you buy to go into the open slot might not be as fast as it could if it the new stick was matched to the old stick.
Hence, just go with the stock option and buy two new sticks later on -
Hey, I need some pros help here.
Those core temperatures, are they dangerous?
I've never seen my laptop hit temperatures that high... -
Did they get rid of the one year accidental?
-
that's pretty high for an i5... but if your notebook doesn't automatically shut down from those temps, then they are within the margins for the 14. does it makes the palmrest or bottom feel hot?
-
Those are not dangerous temps. I wouldn't be concerned until your core temps exceed 90.

Perhaps mine already shipped. When did you order? -
Hi I'm thinking of returning my new dm4t for the envy 14. My dm4t has an i5-540m, do you guys think the i5-450m will be much of a performance hit, especially considering the 5650 is way better than the 5450?
Also, I feel the fan is pretty noisy in the dm4t, do you think the envy 14 is better/quiet? -
June 27th, my estimated ship date is today.
-
Unless you do a lot of virtual machines and need hardware virtualization, or need the special AES encryption instructions, the i5-450M should be roughly as fast as the i5-540M. The HD 5650 will run laps around the HD 5450. No idea on the quietness of either machine, but the Envy 14 should have MUCH better build quality, and a much nicer screen.
-
i really wish i ordered on day 0, hell, i was up all night waiting for it with you guys
damn my inability to make quick decisions... -
same haha. i counted down the seconds til its release only to wait a week to order it.
-
So I ordered the 520m but I'd be happy with the 450m. My order has been accepted and it lists it as "in production"...is it too late to call in and request a change? I know some people called in about the same sort of thing and got some $$$ back even though HP couldn't change the order, and I'd be 100% ok with that too
-
Go for it, it wouldn't hurt.
-
I too stayed up all night in this thread and im not going to have the money for it until almost October -
LMFAO!! I did the same exact thing...I was being stubborn and hoping for the damn BCB to come back....but like 4 days later I couldn't take the pain anymore Q_Q so I pulled the trigger xD
-
that sounds familiar....
o well, mines scheduled for shipment on the 14th, optimistically im hoping for it to be at my door next friday -
looking at the history of 25% discount for hp, there is still a chance for it to comeback briefly within a week or two. I am in no rush, so I would rather wait then regret later.
-
You cant change your orders once they are in production...HOWEVER
you can cancel it...i did.... and re-order one with correct config....They said it may not be able to be cancelled as its in production but mine was cancelled a couple of days later fine. -
lol dude...........
-
they might offer you $100 back since they will try to avoid you cancelling the config...i think someone did that 100+ pages back
-
You do have to remember, this is the same company that said the Envy 14 would be released with a Core i5 at $999 base price.
Even if you dismiss the youtube video's, the PDF documents about this product before it was released were also not 100% correct. -
I waited all night on launch day to see the price, but I don't really need mine until Sept. 1st, so I think I will wait. The "ad embargo" is going to be in effect until Aug. 22nd, that might be the day they roll out the discount sales ads, to catch last minute buyers for back to school season.
-
Just called and tried doing that same thing; they wouldn't play ball. I asked to change the order, they said I couldn't, so I broke out the "c" word (cancel!) in hopes they'd get scared and offer some $$$, but the CSR mentioned the 21-day return policy and I gave up at that point. I'm not much of a haggler.
It was worth a try
-
IMO you already missed out. With student discount (which anyone can get) you can order the 160gb Intel SSD for less than $300, which is a steal. If you wanted SSD like performance, you should have just ordered the SSD drive as you won't find anything else anywhere near that price point with this performance. -
That's not entirely true, they are selling you the 160GB SSD at $415, and with an academic discount of 10% that comes to: $373.50
-
They're offering $400 off on the Envy 13. Wonder why they're not offering even half that off for the 14?
-
i think he's assuming you apply all money saved towards the SSD alone
-
400 off? where? how?
-
actually, I see it as $315 with the student discount.
-
just a guess, but probably because the 13 is "old" and the 14 is new. they're showing an estimated build date of July 19th right now for new orders, why on earth would they offer any money off a product that's obviously selling well enough for them to have a 2 week backlog for builds?
-
StealthReventon Notebook Evangelist
So I'm still seeing conflicting info, is there an option in W7 to save everything but shut down and swap the primary battery, then be back with everything you were doing again?
-
You have to figure the cost of the "base" parts, the other price you see is added to the base, so an 160GB SSD is actually $100+$315=$415, which is very close to the newegg retail price you would pay. So its not a steal at this price, but at least you can see they aren't ripping you off, like they do with the CPU's. -- I posted a list of all the prices the other day if you want to look them up.
-
It's $315 normally, but 10% the entire laptop so effectively it costs $283.50. Not a bad deal at all. I might go this route and look for a larger one in the future when I need it.
-
oicic(10char)
-
Envy 13 is being phased out. They are getting rid of the rest of their stock. Don't expect the same thing for the Envy 14.
-
see my last post, its not $315 normally, its $415.
-
Same here. Why not wait to save $375 instead of $150 (assuming $1500 laptop).
-
Don't know which HP website your at, but it says $315 to me with 10% off that, which would be $283.50
-
Order dropped to factory!
(Jeez, this is gonna take forever. ;_
-
Once my order gets to "in production" I'm planning on calling up and saying my parents are pissed because I spent so much on the laptop, and ask if I could change my processor from the 520 to the 450 because there isn't much of a different, and also say I need to get it soon before we go out of the country so I can't cancel it lol. Hopefully that should get me some $$ back. We'll see.

Use $400 off $1299 HP Coupon NBG351962 [Exp. 07/20 or 1350 users]
for Envy 13
still nothing for 14
-
For Envy 13, configure $1,299 or more, use $400 off Coupon Code NBG351962 =$899.99 plus FREE shipping.
Coupon applies also to the new dv7t. Doubt it applies to Envy 15 or 14. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
he's taking into consideration the base price of the 320 GB hdd (which is set at $100, and is hidden from view when you config stuff) -
Because according to an article on this very website,
HP will stop producing the Envy 13, and sell whatever they have left.
Obviously, the Envy13 hype died, and its sales aren't so hot.
So they're giving away ridic discounts like 400 off so people buy them, over the new laptops they released.
Once all Envy13's are sold, they don't have to worry about it anymore.
Envy13 will be gone forever.
