Hi, has anyone experienced Windows crashing on them?
It appears to happen at some point after I leave my computer alone for a while. I've never seen it, but coming back later the computer has already restarted. I imagine something with sleep or hibernation.

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033

    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Is this a one time thing or has this been appearing whenever you put the notebook to sleep/hibernation.

Honestly, I would not worry so much if this is a one-time thing. Having a BSOD using Windows is unavoidable.

Multiple time thing and I know this probably isn't a tech support forum :)
but, I went through and got the debugger and found this so far:

    DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f)
A driver is causing an inconsistent power state.
    Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000004, The power transition timed out waiting to synchronize with the Pnp
    subsystem.
    Arg2: 0000000000000258, Timeout in seconds.
Arg3: fffffa8006d2f040, The thread currently holding on to the Pnp lock.
    Arg4: fffff80000b9c510

So definitely some problems with sleep. Unfortunately it's happened a few times. I've only had the computer for 2 days. :(

    More info:
Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\hpdskflt.sys, Win32 error 0n2

After some more Googling, I went to power options and made sure the hard disks didn't turn off. I adjusted some things in there as well so while plugged in the computer didn't hibernate, etc. It will turn off the display, but won't sleep. All I read was just make sure the hard disks don't shut off and to try that. So that's what I'm going to do aside from update drivers. Updating drivers was the other suggestion (though I did update ATI's drivers beforehand, maybe that even started the issue).

I'm wondering if the "HP Recommended" plan and whatever other settings and software and drivers HP puts on these computers is designed for those with switchable graphics or some other assumption in mind and that not every configuration has the best settings. I'll post back here, not sure if anyone else has this problem but a computer that crashes everytime it goes to sleep is probably a big deal :) I'm hoping it's an easy fix. I'm going to see if I can't also track down what the "umbus.sys" and the "hpdskflt.sys" file does, is, and how it gets updated.

Making sure the disks don't turn off seems to have helped...But I haven't left it in a sleep state for long. I guess I'll have to keep an eye out.

You may want to look at the hard disk SMART information to see if there are problems.

One tool is AIDA64 (successor to Everest). Its commercial, but the program will work as a demo for 30 days.

you could also do a full restore to shipped condition! Lol,if that does not work, step 2 is call HP tech. If they can't help, step 3, get RMA, return, and get a new build. Good luck

Did you check the HDD SMART info yet?
This could be from the disk not spinning up in time after power-saving mode is entered.

(there are many causes for event id 41)

I have not had this issue on the prior or newest BIOS version.

turning off the put hard disks to sleep option seemed to fixed the problem.... well not "fix" but avoided the problem. when i shut the computer down it doesn't seem to shut down gracefully. scanning for new hardware in device manager takes forever, never let it finish...simply took too long.

typical windows issues. i doubt it's the computer, it's just windows is total junk, even windows 7. unfortunately i'm going to have to wait on some drivers before being able to easily install Linux without hunting down patches and such. so i guess i can live with things how they are for now. it doesn't bluescreen anymore.

not going to wipe it because A. it's a pain in the and B. it could be the bio update which would have nothing to do w/ factory OS settings. C. not going to RMA it because it's not hardware. HP would just send me the same messed up computer. i'm either missing drivers and have a bad combination of drivers or have some conflicting software somewhere. i promise everyone's HP ENVY would be having the same problem given the same software/drivers. and i honestly think it's HP's issue to fix and no tech support phone call is going to change a thing. it's time unfortunately that's going to have to fix things...over time and future drivers i'm hoping this problem will get resolved.

OR i guess i could TRY and wipe everything out and put a completely clean copy of Windows 7 on without all the extra crap that HP loads. any one piece of their junk software could be causing the issue. i really wish they'd just give you straight up Windows 7 without any extra pre-installed crap. :(

This definitely still is an issue, but turn off the option to put the hard disk to sleep and you can avoid it...for the most part.

Edit: I've had similar issues with Vista before, but never saw anything like this ever again after I switched to Linux :) I just find myself in the unfortunate position of using Windows again...But I really really want to use Windows. I just don't want it to suck, haha.

I have the 17, and some programs or random YouTube videos have in the past triggered blue screens. It's a bit annoying. Often it happens when I am doing something it will inevitably ruin, such as burning, ripping, converting or recording. I have PCTV from Pinnacle. If I click on the remote tab in settings and attempt to choose one, blue screen. Same if I try to use radio stations in that program. The wrong combination of programs can trigger one, too, it seems. I haven't any in a while. :Knocks on wood:

I have noticed bluescreens only when playing games on an external monitor. It happened after playing a game for about an hour, then it happened playing need for speed twice after playing for 5 minutes.

It seems to be something with the external monitor, because playing a game on the screen seems to be fine. I'm going to try and update the display drivers and play around with some stuff to see if it works. I never play games on it, so I've never had blue screens, but recently I've played a couple games on it like sims 3 and need for speed and it crashed.

    EDIT:

Actually it doesn't matter which screen I'm on, which is weird because Sims 3 crashed on the external screen, but played fine for hours on the laptop screen. I'm trying to see if I can get a fix, because I have a feeling its the game (need for speed).

already went through the debugging tool. it pointed to a driver relating to the drive guard software. reading on some other forums i've seen other people (with other laptop models) having similar issues. could very well be the software from HP. i definitely would like to think the hardware is not faulty being that it's brand new and since it hasn't crashed since turning off the option to put the hard disk to sleep... and since i know on several other machines that windows 7 has issues with sleep/hibernate/etc. i'm going to assume (and i think it's safe to) that it's purely a software thing. but, i will see if i can't perform all sorts of memory tests, etc.

Disabling the drive guard didn't seem to change anything. Also I should mention that I can't shut down. I can only cleanly shut down from safe mode. Otherwise it just sits there at the shutting down screen forever. However, I don't get the BSOD now that I don't let the hard disk shut off.

I just got three blue screens today, two of them in direct succession. I tried to perform a system restore, only to find out that Windows had somehow stopped creating restore points. I don't see how that happened. I set it up to make them again.
