    Hi,

I am struggling to get my new envy 14 2000ea to switch to the 6630GPU. I installed the drivers from the HP drivers from the HP website over the 5650 switchable graphics from a radiance envy 14 (I switched the SSD after cracking the radiance screen), and the switching won't work. I then uninstalled the ati drivers from the device manager, and then reinstalled them (from the HP webite.) It still won't work.

I can't find any option to manualy switch to the ati driver in the control center etc. Please could someone advise me what to do. I'm only keeping it until late November as I can't stand the screen, so I want everything to be working fine for then.

    Thanks

    Stanley

Go into the BIOS at startup and switch it from Dynamic Mode to Fixed Mode. I don't remember which section it's under, but it's the one to the right which also contains the Function Keys settings. After you change it to Fixed Mode, you'll be able to see the option to manually switch, as well as to have it switch when you unplug it.

On another note, if I'm reading correctly, you simply swapped the SSD out of a 1st gen and put it in your new 2nd gen straight up?

Yes, and then I just installed some drivers from the HP site. Thanks for the help, I'll try that - can you still switch to the intel like you could before?

    No problem.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you, but I could still see a bunch of potential issues from doing that, even if you updated drivers and such. If you had the time and the means, I'd totally recommend backing your stuff up and re-installing, either from scratch or from recovery disks. Who knows what else might be wonky? :)
