The new F.06 BIOS has allowed for fixed graphics mode, and this has coincidentally enabled overclocking on the new SB ENVY 14 models.

WARNING: Overclock at your OWN risk.

Preliminary testing on my part has shown that the Whistler LE/HD6630M core is completely memory-starved.

I was able to pass OCCT GPU testing with 485 core/1090 memory with 0.9V using Sapphire TriXXX, up from default 485/800. Overvolting is enabled for this ENVY.

This increased the frame rate in OCCT testing from 69 to 90 FPS, with overclocking the memory alone. Temperatures increased from 62C to 68C.

The memory chips used in my ENVY are 900MHz Hynix H5TQ1G63DFR-11C chips, which should guarantee overclocking of 900MHz memory in theory. The fact that it can achieve at least 1090MHz is wonderful. (perhaps because the Whistler PRO/HD6770M is using the same core with GDDR5)

    Will post complete testing later.
Post your overclocks too and let us find the optimal clocks.

Thats ~3800 points more than the old Envy 14 with i5. Not bad.

However, how will this impact the long term life of the chip ?

Also, what 3dmark06 result do you get when NOT overclocking.

edit : why does your link say 6750 instead of 6630 ? 3dmark06 not detecting it properly ?

If you run at chip at overclocked speeds with default voltage, the impact should be minimal.

Detection sucks: 6600M and 6700M series

Wow, seems insane overclocking. Anyway core overclock doesnt surprise me, considering 6770M is already 725mhz stock (and this is the same chip but with GDDR3) But memory clock surprises me :p
Maybe this one overclocks even better than the 5830M (which already was an OC monster). Seems it can get close to the 5830M when overclocked. I bet if 5830M supported higher voltages it would be even a better oc'er. (considering 65C on overclocked mode..)

Can you still go higher? Maybe by upping the voltage? I mean GPU under 75C is perfect.
Don't you start having problem with power supply? I mean envy 14 only has a 90W supply? Can you benchmark in 1280x1024 (maybe on exteral display?)

You've got to hand it to HP for increasing the quality of the GPUs they put in the second generation Envy.
I'm grateful that they listened to their customers who were fed up with getting lowly binned 5650s in the first generation (mine only goes from 450/800 to 510/900 @ 1.0V, some can't even go that high)

I hope the more people post their results to make sure the improvements are consistent, if they are, i'm buying myself one! :D

What i dont understand is that.. when I OC my 1st gen envy 14 im stable at 570/800 when playing just cause 2... but when I use the same clocks while playing BF2 i get driver crashes...

    why??

I thought if it was stable for one game its stable for alot of other games..

    any ideas?

Because different games stress the GPU differently. It happens all the time - clock settings that are stable in one game might not necessarily be so in another. All you can really do is back off on your clocks a bit until everything is stable.

Hey so I've been watching this thread. Any update from the 777/1135 @ 1.0V

Oh yeah one more thing. Is 0.9 the default voltage?

I was thinking about OCing this without playing with the voltage. :p
Wanna see how high it can get without going over 70c.

This thing is not meant to game heavily or be overclocked, guys. Come on, the 6630Ms used are the kind that use HyperMemory instead of fully-dedicated GDDR3, and even running at 0.9v, clock speeds past 550MHz make it generate an immense amount of heat. The proc will constantly get past 80, while GPU will hang around 71, in my experience.

But, if you choose to OC anyhow, be warned that YMMV - Not all the chips are of the same quality. I can't get past 650MHz without artifacting or a voltage boost.

The new set does 766/1140 at 0.91V, not bad, but pity it's going for DOA. :(
